Awesome! I can ask you doubts on BOPF now :good: My current project also is with TM.

IBM is a good role, but look at moving into a more of a func. consultant role. At the customer's end, not much of customization can be done in TM afaik. The BOB transaction sucks big time.

Look to become a consultant. Then it's a good move. But if you going there as a developer, then it doesn't make sense since TM enhancements are limited.

Haha! Yes you can .

My role would be technofuctional , I think.

:good: But be very careful, only the big shipping giants have purchased TM, so projects also won't be that many.

That is what I'm really scared of! There are not many projects , so I might just get stuck in IBM ..which would be bad!

I haven't made the final call yet.!

About myself..

10- 73 %

12 - 88 %

BE - 75 % (from an ordinary college)

Currently - Working in SAP Labs, 3 years exp.

Salary : Around 8 lakh

Issues : I work in a relatively new product , so there isn't much scope outside of SAP,

I mean out product has not been implemented much yet, so my scope is less.

But it's changing and opportunities should come in next 2-3 years.

Dilemma : Have an offer with IBM Kolkata, offering around 10.5 lakh.

It's not too tempting money wise, but I will get implementation experience which would be beneficial in career later on.

I'm planning to change in 2 years.

From what I have evaluated , if I stay in the same domain , I would not have too much of scope for next 5 years.

And changing domain now would be difficult .

Now I am planning to do M.S.

-Part of the reason is to learn new stuff.

I'm bored with the kind of work I do, there's no way to innovate anything. Career growth isn't much.

-But another part is to earn more and have a decent life abroad. Moolah is a motivator here to be honest.

- And I do not want to regret having missed out on doing a masters maybe after 5 years or so .

Now here are my questions:

-> If I prepare for GRE next year and go for M.S. in 2015, I would have 5 year exp by then? Will it be an issue, negative factor?

-> How much loan will have to take. I'm from a middle class family , so don't have much saved.

-> I don't have any papers published and all, and I've given my academic record. So how much should I aim in GRE? and What other things i should start working on ?

-> If I do get into a top 10 university, what are the chances of landing a job. I do not want to end up with no job and huge debt. :(

-> Is it worth taking so much loan ?

I have a stable life now, if not fully satisfactory. Is it worth leaving all this and start a new course in career.

Thanks

Why no GMAT? Most schools prefer GMAT scores over GRE.

And bro, by M.S you mean masters? Which course in particular are you looking for?

???

Gmat is exclusively for mba (mat = management aptitude test).

Gre is for all other programs, but off late a number of b-schools have started considering gre as well.

Gre is generally less expensive than gmat to take. Dont know why. Probably because of the hype and techno-babble that an mba course encloses itself into.

Also MS = masters in science. Eggman is engineer in computers so am guessing he wants to do post grad in that field.

That is just what i deduced from the definitions of the abbreviations.

Sorry eggman, dont know beyond this point wrt firangi education (as it has never been a consideration for me) so cant help. Hopefully some one from your field will soon chip in.

@eggman having experience could be advantageous for you as you said you didn't publish any papers,so universities might look into your work profile

As for gre there is a new pattern introduced around around 2 years back..for the old pattern I remember 1400 was a pretty good score..don't know much about the newer pattern..

Also gre is not the only factor that top universities considers..a friend of mine got 1250 and 1420 in his second attempt and he had excellent grades in college and school and ended up getting into Cornell..

And regarding the job scenario everyone I know who has gone for a masters has landed a job..it isn't really that tough from what I hear..if u get into a good university then many companies would be willing to hire you if you just get decent grades.

hi,

anyone here who has looked to apply in US MBA or MS in finance course?

My basic dilemma is this-

I have completed Chartered Accountancy course in May12. Been working in an NBFC for 1 year now. But I really want to work and maybe settle in US. I have almost completed preperation for GMAT which i plan to take next month. But the confusing part is this.

1.I dont know if i will be able to get a seat in MBA in a decent collage in US with just one year work exp.

2. Since the universities are saying exp of around 3-5 years after graduation, can i show the articleship which i did as part of CA as experience?

3. How is masters in finance course? I haven't been able to get much information about which university offers the best course. i.e I cant find a university wise ranking list for MS course.

4. FINALLY, the most important part, scholarships!! I've heard its easier to get scholarships for MS than it is for MBA. Any info on this would be great..

Hey guys,

Need some career advice :) Here's some info about me...

Age: 31.

Profession: Medical Transcription - Quality Analyst/Direct Uploader.

Current Monthly Earnings: 25k - reducing drastically every year (read below).

Transcription Accuracy: 99.5%.

Typing Speed: Average 90 to 100 wpm. Max 120 wpm :)

Education: Had left TYBCom in the middle coz of family problems but now I have re-appeared for TYBcom, just gave my second last exam yesterday :) So am gonna be called a graduate pretty soon :)

Computer knowledge: Except programming skills, I got excellent computer software and hardware skills.

Communication Skills: Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English language with perfect grammar, puctuations, etc.

Well, the thing is, I don't really see any future in Medical Transcription because they are reducing our payment rates almost every year now, thereby reducing my income annually, which sucks BIGTIME. So for earning and maintaining the same amount of monthly salary, I have to work harder every year :( Another drawback is that my salary totally depends upon the number of lines I transcribe/edit, so say 5 years down the line in the same profession, am gonna be earning the same amount of money, which I am doing now.

I am thinking of changing my career altogether and am thinking of doing some computer software courses or diplomas or something, which would enable me to earn a steady and rising income :) Something in the lines of database management or anything computer related. A job with monthly steady income of 30k with proper annual increments would suffice just fine :)

What would you guys suggest ?

Thanx a lot in advance. Desperately waiting for a reply :)

^^ not trying to demotivate you, but , since you don't have a CS or related degrees, getting a job as s/w engg might be relatively difficult .... i can suggest two options:

1. Network admin / sys admin etc (which really pays much more than you're looking at) .... you can do some professional courses like CCNA/CCNP or whatever else is hot in this field. The location where you apply for a job also matters here or ex: its relatively easier to get into IT or related fields in a city like blore / hyd/ chennai / pune etc., so decide on that as well ....

2. ITeS like BPO/Call Centers etc., which also pay much more than you are looking for .... they aren't really that interested in specific degrees, and since you already have good oral/written English skills with good s/w + computer skills, you might fit right in , also if you have any kind of experience in team management in your previous roles, you might get into a senior position directly ....

Just my two cents
