Someone please?

Been there as a site Resource but not for a year maybe 5-6 months. If you want to work there, i would advise you to check Singapore, Lot of Indians there especially Techies and PMs... Most are well settled there.

People I have two offers with me currently. Am having a tough time in considering what to choose

Option A: Cognizant

Role given - Senior Mobile Developer(Associate)

Location - ~40Kms from my place( :wallbash: But they do have bus services for my area)
Compensation - Average package

Option B: ProKarma

*Does anyone here know about how good this company is??

*Based on internet search, it's a Mnc with close to 20 branches in several countries, with 2 branches in India and there are about 1500+ employees under them.

Role given - Senior Mobile Developer

Location - ~22Kms from my place(I can drive/ride to this office)
Compensation - Good package(~17% higher than what Cognizant's offering me)

What would you people suggest me to choose? Help plz!

P.s: My ultimate aim is to move into management as early as possible(not really fond of programming).

@Ramu Kaka :)

My suggestion is to go for CTS (Cognizant) buddy, Very established, and even in recession/lack of projects it has the capability to handle its resources the same thing can't be said about the other one, in this case ProKarma. Once I have heard this name 'ProKarma'. Don't know much about that.

Distance shouldn't be a matter, And they are giving you the free bus service unless you hate bus travelings. The package also seems fine, you won't be loosing much with a hike difference of 17%. Stability is the factor to judge in this case. And you can't go wrong with CTS since past couple of months CTS is climbing like Rocket High.

Do keep in mind, CTS will be having a work pressure in these times, they got so many projects.

And on management, Welcome Buddy... Even I too tired of this technical Stuff, Will be starting my MBA next year. I only have 4 years of experience.

Thanks for your input Goty! :D

Like you said, I am inclining towards CTS too, they've been doing quite well the past few months. And my friend who is in there also suggested me to join CTS only.

But still, that extra bit of cash and shorter distance to travel is a bit tempting :|

So another +1 for CTS.

You might hate me for this, but I don't like going out of the country, not even out of Chennai :|

But things might change ;)

I was just giving you an option to compensate for the lesser salary in CTS. But i would say CTS.

Your next company jump also would be easier if you are from a reputed company.

@ramdante, I would suggest to first check and get some details on the actual project you'll be working on, what's your role/responsibilities at each offer etc., before you take the plunge. Don't worry about stuff like distance etc., for all you know your office might relocate to another far away location at a later point in time ! CTS is a big company no doubt but in such big companies it's quite easy to get lost in the crowd and be stuck at a dead end project as well.... if you want to move on the mgmt front check which offer will give you more exposure to get there.... smaller companies give more visibility and more chances to contribute IMO !

Anyway, Just my opinion.... Best of luck....

+1.

Smaller companies --> less role division --> you get to do and learn more.

Bigger companies --> strict/specific role division --> you become expert in the said role but never get to learn outside what you do.

^^ yep, and add to that, the insane amount of bureaucracy at every level .... after a certain point, its all about who you know and how strong your network within the company is !

Also, just my opinoin , feel free to disagree : as far as mgmt is concerned, especially at IT service sectors, PM roles looks good from a distance, but its just not for everybody .... its way too stressful to deal with complaining subordinates/boss/customer/IT dept etc .... than being a geek ! Add to that, if the company decides to lay off, these are the guys who are most likely to be targeted first over non-performance and stuff as they are much easier to replace ! Other drawbacks - onsite opportunities are very less, the job market shrinks a lot for such roles, so changing a company is not that easy as compared to a techie ! I really pity the guys who work as PM at service companies .... worst role that anyone can ask for IMO :P
