^^ You can refer to any CAT prep material .... and george summers for puzzle solving. But that was around 7 years ago :P There's one book by RS Agarwal as well, don't remember the name, many of my frnds back in college used to refer it.

If you're reasonably good in class, you won't need much in the way of practice. Anyway, I suppose simple problems from one of R S Agarwal's aptitude books would suffice. A lot of my friends who got placed used that.

I think it's called "Quantitative Aptitude". There's also another book of his called "Verbal Reasoning". I guess the former should be enough though.

I am in my third "IT" company and never went through any test. Most of the hires we do / have done have been based on domain knowledge / technical knowledge first, and then figuring out if soft skills fit.

Written test is done for campus placements. Since there'll be hundreds of eligible candidates (cut off these days is as low as 60% agg in some companies), its quite difficult to interview every one. So most companies prefer an apt test to filter out most people and then conduct interviews for the remaining.

anybody working or placed in an IT company.suggest a book for aptitude preparation.also can suggest some tips.

CAT material will be too much. Just go through formulas and do a little practice to get into the flow/develop speed (speed is important). Go through that RS Aggarwal book which others have suggested but don't spend too much time solving it. See what kinds of questions can come. If you feel you're not clear with some concept, then spend time on it.

Focus more on your core subjects.

I'm assuming you're B.E./B.Tech.

I think that guy is going for campus placements (as a fresher) where these tests are done to shortlist students. You must be talking about recruiting experienced people.

Been around the block so helping out with the apti for all the aspiring engineers out there

For

TCS: There are only a few types of question in that rubbish touchstone thing remember their methods by heart and don't think too much for any sum. It is a rule of thumb to go to the last line of the question to see what they actually want. The questions will be filled with Rubbish data

AVG cuttof for an off campussing batch of 2010 (27-28)/35 : people claim it to be more but you'll see that most of the people claiming higher cuttofs are the ones who are not selected. You will get the calci and keep it cool

CTS: Easiest apti to come across. There will be 60 questions from each section with NO -ve markings (this is where I went wrong) do all you can and mark b or c alternatively for the others.

AVG cuttof : Goes quite high because of this tukka baji

Infy: Never sat for it never will

Capgemini: prepare set theory for this one and problems with hollow cubes There are Sectionals in this one

Avg cuttof 8-10 in each section (but if you get just the cutoff in each section then prepare to be grilled in the interview) also they carry over the marks of this the GD and the PI for the selection.

You could also try the e-litmus test to get placed in companies like Mcafee and Tally or Erricsonn

How to get a 97+ percentile score in that you ask?

Well ignore the maths part they are there to waste time go straight to the english and comprehension and score FULL marks there (very easy) go back to reasoning and solve a few of the puzzles there (can be a bit tricky but totally worth it once you get em correct ) and invest no more than 30 mins in the quanti part and you'll sail through (I Did)

for all the aspirant managers I have till now broken down the MAT format with a 99.69 percentile only (Keep watching this space for cat tips later)

Start with reasoning here attempt all leave the statement conclusion ones , then to language be thorough with the comprehension (for that reading a lot is the key , can't help you here) after which in quant attempt questions you are sure of and same with the di GK is all tukka baji ( not added to the result)

I attempted 125 questions

Hope this post helped :exoticdance:

^^so f**kin true, dont want to take any names but a fellow doctor ,whose father is the state's medical education minister, does not figure in the Aipge merit list but is among the top 5 in the State pg exam.During the ug days the viva examiners would greet her with folded hands and we used to watch in disbelief :ranting:

TBH, I really don't know why I'm studying for the PG exams any more. Recently sat for Manipal/HIHT and a couple of more private colleges. In my centre there were hardly 150 students. And most of the exams I sat for had centres only in Delhi, that too 4-5 in number. So 600- 750 in all sat for that particular private college exam. Know the reason why ? Seats are already fixed. Nobody wants to give a sh*t about the exam. It's just another way of minting money by the college (3k for the form.. f**king stupidity !).

And before people start ranting about the awesomeness of govt. colleges, I'll give you a simple example. Let's talk about BHU. A very prestigious () university for medical students. Now here's the division of seats:

i3RjV.jpg

Just look at the seats division for General candidates under the BHU examination. They don't have seats for f**king Orthopaedics, Radiology, Paediatrics  ! WTF man ! Seriously WTF !!

Prestigious can kiss my a*s ! :|
