George "Geohot" Hotz broke open iPhone and broke open PlayStation 3. Apple wasn't happy and Sony has taken Hotz to court.

What would Microsoft do if Hotz broke open Windows Phone 7?

Nothing.

In fact, Microsoft wants to send Hotz a Windows Phone 7 handset so he can get cracking.

"Geohot, if you want to build cool stuff on WP7, send me email and the team will give you a phone - let dev creativity flourish," tweeted Brandon Watson, Windows Phone 7 team lead.

Hotz's jailbreak for PS3 allows homebrew applications and pirated games to run on the console. Sony's trying to stop him distributing it, but Hotz is fighting The Man every step of the way.

Well considering how piss poor Windows Phone 7 is, its not surprising that MS wants it to be Jailbreaked to open the path for development of applications.

So whats the status in geohotz's trial?? I really want sony to win this one. Put his a*s in jail with a massive debt. Then let us see how our stud nerd makes a real 'jailbreak' .

If Apple coudn't do anything to Geohotz, what chance does Sony have? Technically speaking, he is not a pirate.

MS knows that since the US made iPhone jailbreaking legal, they wouldn't get far by fighting it. So this is just a PR stunt to make them look like they support these guys. Plus, they have nothing to lose coz I'm guessing they're dead last in the smartphone space. Or have they climbed above Palm :giggle:
