Not exactly a problem to me, but if my internet goes down, then DAMN.

I hope internet is needed only ONCE, not always while starting the game.

If its required always, then I am hacking my PS3 for sure.

60$ is a wrong price point, set by the first idiot who jumped the gun on current gen cycle. 50$ is the limit, both psychological and economic. Even now very few people buy new games at full 60$, they alway go for 5-10$ discounts or wait for the prices to come down in couple of weeks, and they do come down when demand/supply equation corrects itself. Within a month or so you find SP only games going for less than 2/3rd of their original price. If it was less than 50$ initially, I don't think you'd see such big correction in such a small amount of time.

Errr...you do realize that games are costlier to make now and yet they are priced less than what they were priced at during the retro gen (~100$ which equals to 150-200$ of today) ? Or if you look at the more recent gen like PS1, 60$ back in the days was like 80-90$ of today. OR lets look at something even more recent ie. the 6th gen when the monetary value of 60$ was around 70$ of today.

Yes game cost less but look at the target audience now. The gaming earlier didnt had those many players. Now it is a world wide phenomenon and sales are not just limited to one country/continent.

As a consumer, why would I care if the game is made in 5M or 50M? If 60$ price point was right, it would stay at 60$ for at least a week, right? Most retailers don't even sell them at 60$. And once the 'day one' crowd gets their fix, the game hits bargain bin price so fast you wonder why would anyone even buy a game on release date.

can't agree more

and praveer you forgot that the whole idea of pricing comes down to profit per piece against gross profit

as the number of gamers has increased manifold, there is no logic in comparing retro times with today, the gross profit will always be more if the price is right

to prove, Sony is Selling a PS3 for on $10 profit, however there is significant cost involved in producing each unit, however once a game is developed the cost is almost done

if it is good it will sell millions and the gross profit (even if profit per piece is small) will be huge, if it is not good, well there is no point to make

the thing is that because good games are so few, the companies want to maximize their profit by increasing the profit per piece which is just plain wrong

@OP: i don't think it will happen.

Sony hasn't done anything. Ever since the PS3 got hacked, everyone's just been running around like headless chicken saying Sony will do this and that. They haven't done anything yet barring sue a couple of dudes.

Hmmm, but the intent is not right, instead they should try to fix things at there end.

What about the big businesses that Amazon, Gamestop and the likes get Sony by selling used games, for them to include step of validating the traded in disc would itself be a logistical and process nightmare, if not for the end users, at least these sellers would stand against such an implementation and sony might have to listen to them.

Then we wouldn't have been seeing HD games on consoles. This is the first time where consoles have started to rival pc games even in the graphics department.

And the game prices drops in a week because these days (thanks to the day one craze), most games sell some 50% + of their LT sales in that much time.

Although I personally would have preferred lower budget titles so that the jrpgs, space sims and other niche genres wouldn't have got buried like now.
