xbox ethernet port faulty

How do you know the ethernet port is faulty? Just call up MS support and say you have a RROD if you want a replacement. Know the behaviour of a RROD before you call.

Did a series of experiments for that after I had some discussions on xbox forums.

The console cannot obtain an IP address from my modem in automatic as well as manual configurations. And my connection is perfectly tuned for xbl (has been for the past 3 years). Tried changing the RJ-45 cable. Plus my connection works well with the PS3, PC and GFWL with the same RJ-45 cable. Also tried to connect xbox via a lap's wifi internet. The lap shows 'conected' but still my console cannot obtain the IP address. There is only one logical conclusion and that would be that there is a fault with the xbox hardware.

@bul

:rofl: awesome advice!

@OP

you can try wrapping up your console in a newspaper, and run it for an hour, to achieve RROD. Cuz, if its not RRODed, you might get your console back as it is.

you're asking me to kill my poor console? :O

Beech......I would never do such a thing :chair:

you want a replacement, don't you? :naughty: BTW, don't do it, till you get MS support to confirm they will send a replacement. once they confirm it, kill that freakin console. If you don't, they might just give it back to you, saying there is no RROD.

But I don't want to lie to them when my console is perfectly fine. Why shouldn't I tell them the port is faulty and ask for a replacement for that?

There's no way MS will return a console once u have given it.Some ppl have even given modded consoles for replacement.

I had a DVD drive problem a year back after my one-year(non-RROD) warranty The damn console was not reading disc properly & even scratching discs. :( But I called up MS & told them my console has RROD.By lying,u will get a replacement console.But if u tell that ur ethernet port is faulty,they wont replace ur console saying that ur console's warranty has expired.

Are you being sarcastic with that post? :fear:

But like Chor said, will they even accept a good xbox for a replacement for rrod?

Of course I am - it's just a bad idea. See - warranty is over, and you want a replacement for the ethernet port. I am not sure if they do repairs of any Xbox 360 in India. If they have to send it to Australia for repairs you're royally screwed by the shipping. Save yourself time and trouble and get a rrod replacement.

just tell them, you get three blinking red lights on your console, while power is fine, and console is not powering up. act like you have no idea what RROD is! Ask them, what to do, is it possible to get it solver, what are the charges, when will it be done, kind of questions. When they tell you, they will replace it, ask stupid questions about do you have to pay for games again, your gt, etc. Acting stupid always work with MS for some reason. :P

Don't be too stupid or innocent. Every x360 owner knows about rrod. Just say that you have three blinking lights. If you switch the power off and on the same thing happens. Check on YT what your power brick shows.

well i had a similar problem, but it was the aux port (the thin USB like port next to the ethernet port) that was not working and i wanted to connect the Kinect to that port.

in my case, i never realised about this faulty aux port until when i needed it and i been using the console for like a year

i called MS and told them about and they were kind enough to give me a replacement.

so do just that...
