Hey guys,as an initiative to make my free time more productive I decided to start a blog, but the problem is I am confused on how to start there are so many blogging platforms, and then I thought it would be cool to monetize my blog as well.

So whats like the best choice? should I go for a blogging platform,or my own site,i noticed that hosting is cheap so I can probably pay for it myself or maybe ask my relative to sponsor it for me.

Thanks :)

to start with, IMO, better focus on content rather than the platform. So use the most simplest platform - blogger/wordpress. Blogger is relatively simpler among the two. Once you are into the habit of updating your content daily and have decided your focus area and stuff, then shift to your own website. If you are planning to write your diary kind of blog, then better stick to the ready made platforms. Host your own website if you want to share something which is really useful to others (like engadget/kotaku etc).

I'd just second what was said above, focus on getting enough content out there and if you haven't written items that follow a set-path or genre then take some time and experiment first. Once you've got all your writing kinks worked out and your content flow is steady [doesn't have to be everyday but consistent enough] then you can start thinking about whether your ready to do your own hosting if you even choose that option. Don't worry too much about looks as well because a nice looking blog doesn't necessarily offer the best information. Monetizing is nice too but after seeing it work once and then seeing your blog become an overloaded neon-board it will make things looks cluttered if not done right.

Cool.. I wanted to know the same about blogging.. I write stuff and I wanted to enter a blog too.. I was also confused as what will be a good platform to blog.. And no I write to pass time, so not looking at monetizing it.. (not that I think, my writing will accumulate "chillar" anyway!)

^^ if u have plans to monetize, then choose wisely from beginning itself, because it's a pain to move later on and you also lose lot of search points.

wordpress is a much better platform. Also, self-hosted wordpress is even better. So buy a domain and hosting and setup wordpress on it.

I had a blog which was minting monies

but then google got jealous

:fear:

Lemme guess.. you clicked your own ads from multiple IPs ??

I actually have google ads on my blog (on blogger). I write plenty of crap on it but not quite getting the time or inclination to focus on it. Besides despite plenty of visits on my blog, all Google ads has earned me is a measly $27. I can't even withdraw said amount cos you have to hit $100 before Google pays you (i think).

Getting better dividends elsewhere. :giggle:

I've used both blogger and wordpress. I prefer WP simply because of the spam tech. In fact I went from blogger (www.chronostop.blogspot.com) to Wordpress (slackerninja.com) and the transition was flawless. Go with either and don't spend for a domain until you have the funds.

Nice blog :clapping: you are my idol now :P

Have you bought a custom domain or are you using your own host? have you bought upgrade's?

on the other note How in gods name are you supposed to put music on the blog :wallbash:

Before even you start to think about blogging you need to choose your niche. Have a specific niche and let your writing revolving it. here are few questions that you should ask yourself before you write the first post..

1) what will I be blogging about ?

2) How much new information can I add to my blog ?

3) How regularly can I update my blog ?

4) What unique information that I will be providing that someone would be interested to view it ?

Research : Check similiar successful blogs from your niche to get an idea on what type of topics people like.. check problogger.net for blogging tips!

Setting up your blog..

1) Platform : Wordpress, hands down! Nothing much to think about here.. It is extremely power and flexible platform.

2) Domain & Hosting : Get the paid stuff! no free hosting crap.

3) Monitizing : Not yet.. let people drop in..

4) Seo friendly : Hell yeah!

Future Goals :

1) Building a community around your blog.. when people start comment on your blog you will know that you are on the right path.

2) Regular Back Up's. Wordpress plugin can do it for you.. Just make sure you set it up ;)

3) Monitize it.. don't plaster your visitors will alll the ads you can..

4) Keep innovating..

You can always pm me for help.. I will be more than happy to help you guys out..

That's not how I roll though, you can write how-to's on a variety of slightly technical topics - both about computers and gadgets in general and engineering ones - and earn a few dollars here and there. Only thing is you'll need an American paypal account and have an SSN and stuff. You'll also need to submit tax documents before they start putting money into your paypal account.

Besides writing reviews and articles can help you win stuff.. remember that too :P

You don't need to debase yourself and write about warez to earn money.
