If it's the same content then how can ours be "better written"? Read both pages again and play spot the difference if you want. :P

Yes, and I root for them, I mean come on who wouldnt be so mindf**ked considering what all they have been through as a colony/civilization,also the story can be related to 1st WW or Am I being crazy ? :scratchchin:

P.s Helghast FTMFW :wOOtjumpy:

In a way it is related to ww1 and ww2. The rise of a manic dictator who was a wonderful orator. His emphasis on the aryan // helghan race. War waged singularly against the entire world after a period of semi oppression following a previous war.

Wow! so much amazing content. Thanks Snake and IVG staff for putting the Killzone story in very concise manner. Now i really know what exactly is happening in KZ.

When I first fired up KZ 2, the Visari's speech was so inspiring (great voice acting, gave me goosebumps) that I thought I will fight for the Helghan (I always listen to the whole speech before playing). In fact, it would have been a really great game if you fought as a Helghan soldier. You have a purpose to fight in the game (like Red Faction : Guerrilla. Great game. Same type of story as KZ).

Too bad Guerrilla Games coudn't translate the great story in the game. The game is excellent in all manner but a big fail at story telling. If only the game was good at story telling, PS3 would have got it's own 'Halo', but sadly it isn't.

It ain't quite that black and white now is it? SureSure they were displaced from their planet but that was because they broke off and subsequently tried to fight the forces of the UCN. And they weren't shipped off to helghan until their terrorist uprising caused too much trouble on vekta itself. Just cos they're kind of underdogs doesnt mean we should be rooting for them. Besides under Visari they seem to have concentrated on building up the military just like what north Korea is doing.

So let me get this straight

The Helgan Corporation won the bidding of alpha centauri

a corporation only invest in something if there is some profit at the end

not to mention that UCN was in shambles at that time

In a was it did them a favour

Next they had the ballls to go & settle in a unexplored/settled place

even the initial colonies were wiped out they still managed to establish a base

The started harvesting vital fuels on an alien planet & they imported it

something which the whole earth needed

The even improved basic facilities such as communication system & infrastructure

still ISA acted as di*ks & tried to control their military

Then they purchased the whold damned Alpha Centauri itself

The UCN's balles were groeing smaller

They also become frustrated that the Helghan are creating vast wealth off the backs of colonial endeavors that the UCN itself has underwritten.

ofcourse because they implemented the idea rather than eating donuts & thinking it

Imagine your frustration if you bought a car but the car company says that you can only drive it once a week

the same was felt by the Helgan Corporation

They fking bought the Alpha Centauri System with their fkin damned cold money

you can't tell them how to run it

The attack by UCN & ISA on Helgan is similar to the attacks by British & other colonies on africa & native americans

A small but technically advanced force(Read: ISA & UCN) goes & rapes a larger but poorly equipped homeland natives(Read: Helgans)

the Helghan Administration attempts to first co-opt and then expel all ISA forces from Vekta and Helghan.

it's like a ruler trying to repel East India trading company

Despite their overwhelming numeric superiority, Helghan troops are underequipped, poorly trained and inexperienced, allowing many ISA forces to escape the initial fighting. The experienced ISA troops and ships scatter to conduct hit-and-run operations from hidden bases.

The UCA Navy Cruisers prove to be untouchable by the much smaller Helghan vessels. The fleet action is a massacre, with almost the entire Helghan fleet being destroyed or disabled.

The combined ISA and UCA Navy fleet arrives around Vekta and quickly subdues the remnants of the Helghan Customs Service in orbit. Initially the Helghan Administration threatens to fight to the last man, but after a demonstration of orbital bombardment they quickly yield to the inevitable. The Helghan Administration is shut down; all senior civil servants are arrested, as are any executives of the Helghan Corporation.

sounds similar doesn't it?

Many escape into hiding. When a courier ship returns from Alpha Centauri with the news, the UCN Senate debates the matter. Eventually, it determines that the Helghan are too unruly to ever settle comfortably within the UCN. They also decide that the ISA needs a colony nearby, to keep an eye on the Helghan and stop them from causing trouble in the future. A decision that is little more than outright theft dressed up as diplomacy is drafted, and a broken Helghan Administration can do little more than rubberstamp it. The local ISA takes over administration of Vekta. New colony ships of loyal UCN civilians start to be sent from Earth to expand the Vektan Colony.

The harsh consequences of rebellion are not lost on the other colonies. The UCN’s right to regulate and tax space shipping is never challenged again.

what a British officer must have thought

Helghan extremists begin a terrorist campaign in an attempt to make the occupation of Vekta too expensive for the ISA. Although the majority of Vektan-based Helghans simply want to live out their lives peacefully, sufficient numbers of the local populace assist the guerrilla movement to enable it to flourish. Bombings, ambushes and shootings against the UCN minority become more common. Vekta is no longer an innocent paradise.

when we do it

it's called war of independence

Neither the ISA nor the UCN want to foot the bill for establishing this colony, preferring to leave the Helghan to either survive or die on their own merits. In order to legitimize the operation, the UCN formally recognizes the Helghan Administration as a sovereign nation and declares the planet of Helghan to be their territory in perpetuity – subject to ISA blockades and restrictions until diplomatic relations are normalized.

they left us broken & starving

sounds similar?

There are certain points to be noted:

1. The initial batch of colony ships from Earth dropped off the grid in VERY suspicious circumstances. And even before the bidding for a new batch of ships began, the Helghan Corporation ALREADY HAD a new set of ships. Just put 2 and 2 together and see what it means.

2. The Helghan Corp, after purchasing Alpha Centauri, starts taxing all space trade heavily and using this disguised tax in a way to force companies interested in space trade to relocate to Helghan or Vekta (by giving said companies kind of a free pass). Wouldn't you expect a govt to step in when a private corporation (even if assigned to run toll booths all around the country) starts extorting people??

These were 2 things the Helghans kinda did wrong.

In the Indian war of independence, we weren't a colony that was originally founded by Britain, we didn't tax world trade heavily and use underhanded tactics to get people to come into India and settle. Agreed that we did fight for our freedom and land, but up until the actual "invasion of Helghan by the UCN" phase you can't quite draw parallels.

The UCN brought in a number of Earth natives to settle in Helghan while the administration on Vekta was Earth-origin too. That however doesn't mean the Vektan Helghans were oppressed. Merely that their people weren't in power, which is natural seeing as how they'd just fought and lost a battle. A good number of Vektan Helghans supported the extremism that attempted to make life unlivable for the settlers brought in by the UCN. The local administration responded by clamping down harder on the populace as is natural in a place rampant with insurgency. And to avoid having too many restrictions on them, the Vektan Helghans themselves bought the colonial ships and requested to resettle on Helghan instead.

All said and done, the UCN was indeed almost like the British in its heavy handed but slightly ill thought out ways. They looked at short term profit for Earth more than long term peace when they started and the galaxy paid the price in this war. They certainly weren't the "right" side in this but the Helghans sure had plenty in the way of mistakes made on their part too. Which is why I said "not quite black and white"
