gonekrazy3000
well my friend. I'm afraid you're totally out of luck. a friend of mine had the same problem. In the end only recent HDTV's give display over hdmi on the slim regardless of resolution. My 3 year old Samsung HDTV and his own Lg just refuse to give display (480p,720i,720p,1080i and 1080p just don't work). the 360 doesn't show that the HDTV is even connected, other than a green garbled mess. It works fine on my lg projector though. on all resolutions (1080p just looks divine). so your only real choices are to screw hdmi and stick to component/composite/vga or get a new HDTV/monitor(that supports hdmi). this display issue is apparently a bug that came about after the newest Kinect Os was added to 360. It only affects the slim though as another friend of mine that owns an arcade is unaffected. Hope this post helps.
