Kazekage Gaara
Hi guys, My brother-in-law is very much interested in buying a digital camera for his personal life. Now, he's much more interested in those Cybershots, and his budget for the same is around 5 to 6k MAX. His main purpose is to just take good quality pictures, like family photos, picnic photos, travel shots, etc., and that's about it. He's gonna take lots of photos and preserve them as memories on DVDs So, please suggest a good VFM camera at this price range. Brand doesn't matter so far as the quality of the pics is AWESOME. Thanx a lot in advance. Desperately waiting for a reply
aRch-0n
Sony W series, dont remember exact model but the one a friend of mine uses was for 6k and had 14.1 MP camera, so i guess its pretty good..for that usage for that range as well,
Kazekage Gaara
Hi, I also posted on another forum and some guys recommended a Canon A3100IS for an Offer Price of 6,426. Also, I did a search on Ebay, "CyberShot" and put the price range to max 6k, and here's what it showed me.... Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W510 Digital Camera + Warranty Rs. 5390 - 10% coupon Rs. 539 = Rs. 4851 What would you guys suggest ? Also, any other brands ? Edit: Or how about this... Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W530 Digital Camera + Warranty Rs. 6250 - 10% coupon Rs. 625 = Rs. 5625 Edit II: I just realized, both of these are available with only 6 months dealer's warranty So I presume these are grey items from the grey market, so what would you guys suggest ? playstation
within the range of 6k i think if you can get a canon or sony or nikon one go ahead...i too dont know any specific model but this is what i try to suggest when looking for a good camera Since urs is basically a need for indoor to normal outdoor usage Look for camera's that have atleast 8 MP...trust me even that is enough....but since standard has gone high i recommend that should be enough Optical zoom-5x-8x should be enough more the better but make sure it has zoom stabilizer too....my camera does not have stabilizer and when i zoom it to 10x it kinda gives shaky image ...which is not something you want with point and click cameras.... What kinda of battery the camera uses is very important....i would suggest camera that use lithium ion one as they can be charged and work for quite long....or atleast cameras that support NImh batteries too...check what bateeries go in that camera. last thing that u need to see in the camera is number of modes it gives you-like potrait, night, some come with night vision also, landscape, sunset, sports, auto, manual and others... I hope u get a good one...try to search as much as possible... here i would like to slightly recommend SOny cybershots coz i find its design very sleek and have also seen it taking amazing pics...very ideal for something a point and click camera....easy to carry in a pocket.... Kazekage Gaara
Wow playstation dude. Amazing post. Thank you SO MUCH for your recommendation. I'll surely check out all these traits before getting the camera, either it be Canon or Sony. Although, people on other forums did say it's better to get the Canon A3100IS since it comes with 2-year Official Canon India warranty whereas the other Cybershots that I mentioned only had 6 month DEALER Warranty. Well, more input from many experienced people is always appreciated Thanx a lot guys
aRch-0n
Try to get officially if you can,

Try to get officially if you can, yes...and i can say that with my personal experience...my fuji camera lcd stopped working after 1 year and 9 months....lucky i had 2 years warranty on it and i got it fixed free of cost....so more warranty the better....definitely take that in consideration.... btw i love fuji too....it is one of the most underated brands in cameras .....but i did not recommended it as i have no idea of fujis - point and click camera....the one i have is bit of semi -pro... avkash
both the cameras in your links look nice although video capture in on the down side (low price though so should not be a problem) i would say take Sony as it is the undisputed king in point and shoot range (the kind of use you mentioned) the preset modes of use are abundant and should be sufficient, face detection and red eye reduction are must have for point and shoot mind you the Mega-pixels only count if you see the pic on a real big screen - even a 32' HD TV is not enough, so any camera should be fine for you
Aftrunner
There is a Fuji one for about 6k which has HD video recording. Read over at TE that picture quality is also excellent. I forgot the model number though.

I forgot the model number though. Oh WOW!...awesome...the moment you said that i went searching or fuji's point click camera its seems you are talking abt this one FUJIFLIM FINEPIX AV100 I went to the website to check some sample images Link Sample images pretty nice...zoom is just 3X....which is okay usually ...though a little more is needed here... btw i also saw the price on ebay awesome deal by this guy...got good feedback too so looks true to me ...check it out for Just 5k(which if you use a 10% coupon qould come to 4.5k) he is giving 4GB card+battery charger+case+ he says 2 yr warranty Ebay @KG, like i said Fuji IMHO is awesome brand .....at that price it really is giving you a lot and tbh.....its not much of an investment either.....in future if you plan to upgrade to say DSLR you wont feel much hurt....this camera will come in handy only in small birthday parties and say just hanging out...still bro buy only when u feel its right for you....we can just give you opinions and tell u as much as we know.. Aftrunner
I think the one I saw was actually Fujifilm JX200. Its got better optical zoom (5x). Its at 6.5k ish with a 4GB card on ebay. Pretty great price for a really good camera AFAIK. http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/j/finepix_jx200/specifications/index.html

One of them ConclusionThe JX200 is a well-designed point-and-shoot which will appeal to beginners well. It makes a good party camera because of its size and stylish design, as well as ability to accommodate group shots in low-light conditions. While the autofocus performance is nothing to shout about, the JX200 closes the gap with features such as high ISO capture with low noise and a nifty Panorama function. avkash
auto focus is REALLY important in point and shoot since you will not have the actual settings to tinker with
