alright man i'll try and keep that in mind.

alan wake reminds me of ubisoft games circa 2007/08, namely assassins creed 1, far cry 2 and prince of persia (cel shaded). one common characteristic in those games were that they had a good foundation... nice graphics, atmosphere and innovative ideas but they fell very short in the gameplay department. they each had about 2 hours of interesting gameplay which was then copy pasted over and over until the games became 10-20 hours long. the games had everything going for them except any sort of depth and variation. this is exactly what alan wake suffers from.

alan wake has great atmosphere... good graphics, decent sound (including nice use of the licensed tracks) and the look of the game is suitably eerie. however, the game falls flat on it's face in the gameplay department. it is absolutely linear and i'd say about 75% of the gameplay consists of running through a dark jungle path at night and fighting off enemies who jump out on your path. it's okay for the first level or two, but after that you realize there almost nothing else on offer in the name of gameplay. when you're not running on a jungle path, you're doing the same thing in buildings, farms, a factory etc. it's not a survival horror game, but rather a 3rd person action game which is supposed to be scary but it's not really. this repetitive gameplay became very boring for me about half way through the game, and it was a struggle to finish it. the combat, like the rest of the gameplay, is based around a single gimmick and it never gets any better or interesting.

the second problem with the game is the plot. the story had an amazing premise... alan wake, a horror novelist, is suffering from writer's block and goes to a seaside town. there, he blacks out and when he comes to, he's in a car crash and his wife is missing. he has no recollection of how he got there and how the last week has passed by. while he's searching for her, he starts finding pages of a novel that he had written, but has no memory of writing them, and the nightmarish events on the pages of the novel are actually coming true in real life. why is this happening is what is supposed to be answered by the plot, but unfortunately, they wrote the script to fit around the gameplay. it's a non stop chain of "go meet/find that person" or "go to that place". it's just a series of events that make the story more and more convoluted as you play on. the ending (without the dlc) is unsatisfying and from what i've heard, even after the dlc it's not all that great.

and then there's the whole thing of what the game was meant to be. back when it was announced, it was going to be an open world action adventure where you would have the opportunity to explore the town, interact with characters and solve the mystery. what we got was a corridor shooter with invisible walls set in the town with no interaction at all. i'm telling you, it is so abundantly obvious how little they have worked on the core gameplay. or to be more precise, whatever efforts they put into creating the gameplay gave very little results. heck there is a setpiece that is ripped off directly from a left 4 dead 2 levels. the game is seriously uninspired and that's why i don't think much of it.

AW had its flaws but in the end its still one of those games I am glad I played and if it does come on the PC I would still say dont pass over it.

Edit Zee and Sack banned. Finally some freakin peace and quite around here. Put Ambar on a VERY short leash as well.

I really liked alan wake, loved the story, music and the way character narrated to itself, the gameplay was a lil repetitive, it could have used some more weapons

Really wish that they make a second one and take out the flaws

This f**king this... :(

If M$ hadn't involved their dick in , it we would had seen a masterpiece gem from Remedy on PC just like Max Payne series , as well as a graphically dumbed down console version but still better than what AW came out on 360.

+ rep , Spin doc.
