5 Amps to 15 Amps Convertor for XBOX

I jus got a XBOX slim with Kinect, i noticed that the power socket is of 16 amps but my wall unit is 5 amps. In the market there are 5 to 15 amps convertors available, but i am not sure if it would be safe to use such convertors. I would like to know if we can use such convertors or is there any other alternative.

I'm not sure what you're saying. Do you mean the power connector cable from the 360 reads 16Amps...if yes, then that is just stating the maximum electrical current that can pass through the cable.

I'm not even sure why you're concerned about all of this? Did you import it?

Just know that before connecting any imported electronic equipment(with a circuit board) all you should ascertain is the Voltage, unless of course you're trying to run something like a lawn mower(which is when the Amp rating on the wall socket would come into play). For everything else, what you need is a ste-up or step-down transformer(110/120V to 220/240V or vice versa).

At that 5 amp rating, your wall socket is capable of providing 240v*5amp=1200Watts of power, which is much more than the maximum of the 130-140 W that the 360 slim requires.

I hope it's clearer to you now.

He means that the plug is too big (physically) for his wall socket. Its a retarded thing M$ loves to do with the 360 :/

just get a 5 amp power cord used for desktop pc's. its got the same jack as the 360's power cord that attaches to its psu. Thats what i did anyways.

Aaah..thanks...talk about wasted breath  . Yes, an SMPS cable would do as you said, or he could get a plug adaptor.

He had me confused by all his ampere and converter talk...lol.

OP--Yes, there is no harm in getting those adaptors from your trusty local bijliwaala..go ahead.

Yes, its safe to use 5 to 15 amps converters since the 360 takes very little power (the plug is just physically big).

I have used one myself till I had my electrician install a big 5 amps socket just for convenience's sake.

What he said. :P

You can buy a 5 to 15 amps adapter for about 50 Rs. from any electric shop.

  • 4 weeks later...

I had the same prob as the OP when I bought a Slim 360 2 weeks ago. Went to a hardware shop but they didn't have any adapters/ convertors so I picked up a spike guard which has a 15Amp socket. Now the 360 goes into this spike guard which in turn goes into my regular spike guard. :D
