I was going through Sony India's website and i came across that Sony has introduced Blu-ray standalone players in India. This is definitely good because its a slap on Microsoft India's face when they actually said that there was not enough HDTV's in India and hence they didn't introduce those standalone HD-DVD Xbox360 addons.

Certainly we are progressing well in this digital world :)

Movies and other things should be emerging too over here

BDP-S300 @ 30,000Rs

BDP-S1E @ 60,000 Rs

Man PS3 is better any day than these BD players.

At least the firmware is upgradeable and you can play some of the best games in HD unlike other consoles. (Yeah I love my PS3 :D )

And coolest thing is the remote for PS3 is bluetooth enabled so don't have to keep pointing it in PS3's direction.

Another best thing about PS3 is Divx compatibility, which these players are lacking for some really weird reason :(

noob Q: why r these BR players so expensive? do they hav some kinda technical advantage over the ps3? if not then why r ppl even buyin em?

ps3's are sold at a loss by sony, blu ray manufacturers like samsung, panasonic or even sony wont sell the BR players at a loss

To add to what KC said, In gaming console business, you get profits from royalties from the games developed on your console. So the console manufacturers sell it at a lower price, hoping to make money from the royalties recd thru game sales. I don't think such an agreement exists for standalone dvd/br players, so, to make a profit Sony will have to sell it at higher rates !

^^ so u guys mean to say that a standalone blu ray player will have no additional features when compared to the PS3 ....

Yup and AFAIK PS3 has an additional feature of firmware update which may not be available in standalone BD players.

Guess the only reason anyone will need to buy a BD player is it will look better (Sleek and Small) than a PS3 in the living room. (Personally would prefer another PS3 in the Living room, then can game anywhere)

Some blu-ray stand alone players come with an ethernet port to allow updates.
