Man In The Box
Hey guys, I will be taking my Xbox 360 and my PS3 to Auckland with me and will connect it to my friend's monitor. His monitor does not have any speakers and so I was planning to buy the USB Logitech Speakers. I would like to know if I can just insert the USB plug of the cables to the PS 3 and Xbox 360 and get the sound ? Or is there anything else that I need to do? Sorry if this is a slightly noobish question but I have never ever connected any console to a monitor before.
Shantz
^^ No. At least for PS3, USB will only give you voice chat sounds but not game sounds. Buy regular speakers with 3.5mm connector and buy a cheap RCA to 3.5mm adapter.
Man In The Box
Where will I put the RCA cables? I will put the 3.5 mm headphone jack on the audio device but what about the other end? Where will I put that in? PS3/ Xbox does not have an RCA slot at the back? Isn't RCA that white and red thing that is behind TVs ? I'm planning to connect my consoles via HDMI to DVI
Shantz
^^ yes, RCA = red and white cables. PS3 default multi av cable is RCA only and afaik, xbox also has rca output. Even if you connect monitor through HDMI, PS3 has settings to output sound through HDMI as well as RCA or just RCA as you please..
LagWarriorZergey
For that u need one thing bro. Y audio splitter (3.5 jack to 2 rca female) Then connect the audio cable of the 360 (red and white) to the 2 rca female and connect the audio cable of the speaker into the 3.5 jack and u good to go. As for your ps3, u do the same connection then you hav to go to the setting, audio output setting, and set the audio output to the composite cable of the ps3. And that's all. Hope it helps. devil_angel
I've been using the same solution (better quality than that ) It's really good. But everytime I switch consoles, I have to unplug speaker out from one jack and plug it into another. Other than that, no hassles.

Then no unplugging/replugging

Wow thanks a lot Shantz and Lag Warrior. I'm gonna try this out when I take my PS3 and X360 with me Is this what I need ? Also, I didn't understand the 2nd part. 'Connect audio cable of the speaker to the 3.5 jack' ? How can I do that ? I have to connect the red and white cables of PS3/ Xbox on one end but where do I put the 3.5 mm jack on ? LagWarriorZergey
It's more of this cable that you need. Instead of looking on ebay, go to any eletronic shop or mainly computer repair shop and ask for "2 female rca to 3.5mm Y splitter" they will show you. If it fits the pics take it And regarding the second part, there is a cable that comes from you speakers (3.5mm male) that you connect to you computer right?? You have to connect that cable to the 3.5mm femal port of the splitter and you are good to go. If you still don't get it will shoot a pic as soon as i get my camera

It means the cable that comes from the speakers will have to be connected to the 3.5 mm jack and the red and white cables have to be connected to the 2 female rca cables. Should I just buy the cable you posted from Ebay as in Calcutta, it's very tough to find a good electronic shop . Most of them don't even know what I am talking about. Dude don't go to an electronic shop to buy it they obviously won't know about it...go to any computer hardware shop...i got mine for 79 rs ...( look at the irony got mine from croma )...just go and tell them you need an RCA to 3.5 MM jack converter and they'll place one in front of you in 10 seconds ...This one on ebay costs 250 rs!!! Man In The Box
Thank you so much everyone. I really appreciate this. I have placed an order for the cables from eBay.
