Crytek want 8GB of RAM in next-gen consoles

Recommended Posts

German studio Crytek has become the latest developer to start discussing what it would like to see from the next-generation of consoles, saying that 8GBs of RAM should be "a minimum" for the next-gen.

"My finger-pointing at Microsoft/Sony would really be on the memory side," said Crytek's principal graphics engineer Tiago Sousa while discussing with Eurogamer the problems the team encountered when developing Crysis 2 for console.

"It's way too low, and the biggest crippling factor from a visual perspective. I would really like to see next-gen console platforms with a minimum of 8GB."

They never gonna put 8gb in their consoles..No way..they will go for 1GB XDR Max....which is quite enough..imo

XDR Ram is way more faster and powerful than DDR5 Ram

speed is only one part of the equation. capacity is the other.

a ferrari might be faster than a jeep, but what are you going to do when you need to get 8 people from one place to another? they can't all fit in the ferrari can they? 1gb ram will mean another full generation of upscaled 720p "high definition" games with shittastic texture quality, jaggies, blur, texture streaming and tiny levels.

Why can't people concentrate on making good games rather than making good looking games. All these developers only talk about graphics now, there is a reason why handhelds are having better games this gen.

Graphics sell games. That isn't new. Crytek are a bunch of spoiled brats though :P

Can you blame them? They went from PC to consoles. I imagine it was like living in a Taj suite to moving into a chawl. No wonder they want bigger rooms.
