playstation
Have anyone of you booked room from agoda? is it safe? how to make sure these online websites are save to book room?
Bhpian Bali
Agoda is a reliable site as they are owned by priceline group which also owns booking.com and few other big names in travel. just crosscheck the hotel address on the booking page that you are actually booking the hotel that was shown to you in the previous page. I have seen this glitch on agoda a lot of times. For eg:- The name of hotel is mariott on agoda which is showing a very low price and you select it only to find out that you are actually booking a 3rd rate hostel. It is a true story. once mariott goa panjim was available for 1500 rs on agoda while i was searching for goa hotel deals. there are several other examples as well
shekdown
Thanks guys. Reduced trip stay to 1 day. Leave the next morning. If there isn't much to do pretty pointless to stay an extra day for one more wedding event. Reception happens in Chennai anyway, and all the important events finish on the day I'm there. El Tigre Chino
I need help deciding between a travel card and International debit card and/or any other option. Travelling to Thailand next week and I am not comfortable carrying a big bundle of money everywhere. Could one of you international high flyers help me out with this. AtheK
Both are fine, and ya stay away from carrying cash. Remember card will charge you everyone you withdraw money, while swiping is generally free.
achilles
Carry big ($100) USD bills. Easy money changers everywhere, you'll get a better rate, and for a lot of places you'll need cash. Swiping works fine wherever cards are accepted. I need help deciding between a travel card and International debit card and/or any other option. Travelling to Thailand next week and I am not comfortable carrying a big bundle of money everywhere. Could one of you international high flyers help me out with this. take both. the baggage counter guys at the indian airport will themselves will ask you how much cash you have. visitors are required to have around 15-20k baht per person to enter, if you have cards (even if they have nothing in them) then they overlook this. you'll also have to pay cash at the visa on arrival counter in thailand. in thailand most hotels (at least the 4-5 * ones) ask you to keep a safety deposit and the amount varies from hotel to hotel. one hotel asked me to keep 2k baht per night for my 3 day booking (6k total). another was happy with 3k for 3 nights. El Tigre Chino
Thank you for the advice Athek, Achilles and KC. Decided to take it partly in travel card and partly cash. I wasn't aware of them wanting to see the 15-20k baht (close to 40k INR?) on you, didn't intend on carrying as much considering it is a fairly short trip. AtheK
I have never been asked in like 4 odd trips to thailand. Make sure you atleast have 1000 bhats for visa fees when you enter.

El Tigre Chino
Oh alright. Carrying about 4,000 TBH in cash for immediate expenses ( visa, travel & any emergency). Rest on the card. Thanks for the help again guys. Much appreciated.

Dude, That depends on person to person. And btw, you should have a minimum of 10000 Bahts or equivalent currency in hand. Mostly by personality they will come to know who is a foreigner/Regular Visitor/Employee/Labor etc.. Based on that they will stop. I remember when I first traveled there at the age 23 I was looking like kid and I am being accompanied by my Seniors who are aged 30 & above.. We went there for a trip (Official + Fun). We were 6 in total and all went fine through check out but they stopped me asking how much money do I carry. I had only 8000 Bahts to which they refused but then I had to show my Cards and my seniors were carrying my Dollars also with them. So after brief discussion they let me in. Bit scary experience but was fine. Only in Suvarnabhumi Airport I faced this issue. No other airports in the world will ask you about cash before entering even if they are on arrival VISA, from my experience.

You can do river rafting, bungee jumping, chill near ganga shore in tent, bonfire & few more adventure activites by flying fox.
