you can cover doars here....nice place ...Gangtok is quite crowded let me tell but good food to try pork and all... As for sikkim i would advice you to go to sikkim tourism center and they are fantastic people to guide you...because going to sikkim with preplanned is not as easy as it sounds....as there are lot of restriction on timings of tourist cars allowed after certain post and some paper work is also needed.....As soon as you reach gangtok..go to MG market right there is the tourism center in the end of the road....they will give all the details you need and what time cars and shared taxis are allowed...how much they will charge etc.

Enjoy!.

Jan, North Sikkim will be very cold. Places like Zero Point, Yumthang valley might be closed. Nathula area is open but depends on snowfall.

You can visit changu lake, kupup lake to the east of gangtok. Pelling is great town to west of gangtok.

Thank you PS & Puns, both the info is very helpful. I looked up the restrictions and weather conditions in the area during the time and I'm considering skipping Sikkim for this trip.

Thinking of going Kol - Darjeeling - Guwahati - (explore area around) - Gawahati - Kol instead. Concern I have now is that, by rough calculations I'll be able to spend 3 days in the NE - will that be enough to do justice and how much of the area will I be able to check out.

3 days is very short....give details on how you plan to go to darjeeling ....via train through NJP or through plane and land bagdogra then go from there...because from Kol to NJP is one night journey....from there darjeeling abt 2 hrs.....I think what you should do is checkout places near Kalimpong like lolegaon and all......anyways if you give more details on how you coming and going might be able to tell you more.

Guys, planning to visit pondicherry on the new year's eve ....

It'll be a family trip, so please let me know some good sight seeing spots , good beaches , good places to eat (preferably veg) etc.

Also, I'm planning to drive down from Bangalore, so let me know if I need to take any precautions (wtih all the political uncertainties and the recent hurricanes in TN) ,

I'm having a KA name plate, will it cause any issue in TN ?

Any help / info is highly appreciated .... also, let me know if you're in and around chennai/pondicherry area and if I can give you a call in case of any urgent help :D

Ka number plate might cause issue,

As I had a friend who drove down from Bangalore for 2015 new year day and midnight we had some issue with some guys in the city, but it was in Chennai,

But there is always that bit of hatred on the guys from KA to some extent in TN as far as I am aware, but not everyone are the same

As for Pondy, it will be pretty crowded with the youth folks boozing around :)

The Ashram, Vinyagar temple, Auroville, Try booking a beach resort, the private beaches would be a good option as the open beaches would be pretty crowded.

Thanks for the info. What kind of issues your friend faced ? Did they damage his car or something ?

There will be no issues with KA cars. Maybe an ugly stare, but nothing more. Now no one's bothered about the Cauvery issue, what with JJ passing and all that.

Also, TN is completely calm right now. You can go and come back safely. I did a Salem trip last weekend, and parents did a Ooty trip, both with KA cars.

In Pondicherry, avoid Auroville unless you're the spiritual kinds. It's a far way away, and a complete waste of time, imo. Visit the Manakula Vinayagar temple. It's famous and pretty old. The temple is in the part of town called as White Town. The entire area is maintained spic and span, and is a throwback to old French times. You'll love it. There's a cafe on the shore in the adjoining road. Visit that as well.

Pondicherry is not that known for a beach. Sea yes, but beach no. Visit Mahabalipuram if you can.

off to dubai for a week next month, any special pointers, except for the obvious one all over the internet.

Also nice place to buy electronics?

I saw that the electronics prices are more or less the same as the, grey market in India.

The aquarium at the dubai mall is horrible compared to the one at Atlantis mall.

And the Atlantis mall also has one of Gordon Ramsey's restaurants. Plan for a meal there. Was really good.

@Aman --> On Electronics, Try E-Max. One suggestion though, Try to get Electronics from Sharjah... bit cheaper than Dubai. I found after several comparisons.

Regarding Sightseeing, I think most of you are aware what Dubai is famous for.... Desert Safari, Burj Khalifa, Malls, Palm Dubai Island, Jumeirah Beach Dubai Marina Night Tour.

What some don't know is the Sky Dive near the juncture of Dubai Marina & The Palms. Superb Experience one must take for Extreme Adventure and visit the Souks in Deira or Sharjah, some real jewel pieces you will ever witness.

Dubai is best 2 days or 3 Max. I always suggest those who go to Dubai, do go to Abu Dhabi (Just 2 Hrs. drive). Excellent Road and there you will see the actual adventure, serene beauty. (The Corniche, Sheikh Zayed Mosque and the Adrenaline Ferrari World.)

This really covers it all. Although I'd like to add Jabal Jais to the list. You could go overnight camping there. Bonfire and stuff.

On a side note, how much does skydiving cost? I was there for 12 days at December end. Pata hota to pakka karta.

It costs Rs 40000.

Has anyone here traveled to Greece, Athens particularly?

Also, what is the best way to spend a day in Amsterdam?

Edit: I have to attend a wedding near Manila, Philippines in early September. I want to know what is the best way to spend time there, things to do, where to stay, what to visit, etc.
