prakhar
AULi Is awesome. Its also known as Switzerland of Asia. Auli, (alt. 2915 mts-3049 mts ) is an important ski destination in the Himalayan mountains of Uttarakhand, India. Auli lies on the way to Badrinath. Auli is blessed with a breathtaking panoramic view of the lofty peaks of the greatest mountain range in the world, the Himalayas. The slopes here provide enough thrill to professional skier and novice as well. The Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam Limited (GMVNL) a govt agency which takes care of this resort have imported snow beater to maintain slopes. Auli also boasts the Asia's longest - 4 km - cable car (Gondola). It also has a Chair Lift and a Ski-Lift. Apart from Skiing there is an interesting trek route also. A small temple having connection to great epic Ramayana is also present. Best time to visit is first week of December to first week of March for skiing. Though weather is highly unpredictable. In summer months its like this If you have time of a week then best is to get enroll in the course and learn from the experts. The nearest Airport is Dehradun which is 298 kms away and Rishikesh, the nearest railway station, is 235 kms away. Bus services are regularly available from Delhi, Rishikesh, Deradhun, and Hardwar to Joshimath, 16 km away. Hotels are of both premium and reasonable class. Suggestion is to stay at "CLIFF TOP CLUB, AULI", a luxurious ski resort,at more than 10,000 ft. above mean sea level Cliff Top is literally at the top of the world, [being the second highest located resort in the world] and the only skiing resort in Asia which is located right on the ski slope. Auli is hosting SAF winter games in 2010 in which skiers of different countries will participate. SAF winter games will take Auli to a global level. ITS A MUST VISIT PLACE. I've pointed him to the NH7 website for ideas re gigs, so he's aware of The Living Room Cafe et al insofar as nightspots. Big Boss
Dudes what are good reliable travel sites in India? I want to go for a holiday with my wife, and reading reviews of makemytrip.com everywhere makes me shudder. Anyone has any idea?
outsider
Dudes what are good reliable travel sites in India? I want to go for a holiday with my wife, and reading reviews of makemytrip.com everywhere makes me shudder. Anyone has any idea? I found the reviews on tripadvisor a good starting point. In reading the reviews, you've got to remember as a general rule that people who have had bad experiences, on average, are more likely to write about it, so, don't get too freaked out by the reviews you read. I found signing up to Virtual Tourist was also a good starting point, because you could have your questions answered - often by locals of the area. Where are you looking to travel? I'm sure if you list your possible destinations there will be people here who could recommend places to stay, things to do etc.

They charge more but no hassles and very professional. If you're looking for reviews - tripadvisor or virtualtourist. Try wikitravel also. Big Boss
Yes, I am looking for packages, dont want to plan anything. Thinking about Andman, Singapore or Bangkok. I will check out Thomas Cook.
outsider
Yes, I am looking for packages, dont want to plan anything. Thinking about Andman, Singapore or Bangkok. I will check out Thomas Cook. If you decide on SPR, don't bother with a package. The package tour version of SPR is boring as batsh*t. SPR is best enjoyed by exploring the older parts of the city on your own and going on a bit of a culinary/liquid jaunt about town.
Madmage
can you guys recommend some hotel in the city centre of dubai ? I dont wanna spend more than 4k per night. I am going with the missus and I need to stay for 2 days. Reviews for various hotels are mixed and I don't want to book a wrong hotel and then ruin a long due vacation :| . So I'd rather trust someone from IVG
Death Stryke
^If you are on a budget, Golden Sands Hotel Aptmts in Bur Dubai are perfect. Excellent rooms and very good prices. This is assuming you want to save on your hotel expenses. I've stayed in Golden Sands many times on extended trips and frankly it was fantastic. 2 bedrooms a kitchen and a Living room too. Only thing is they are serviced apartments edit: Rates may vary, but you can get it at 400-500 AED per day. Death Stryke
Hmm, you could try the Westin, Mina Seyahi Dubai. My relatives stayed there during a visit and they loved it. Plus got it at a decent price too I believe around 800-900 AED. Actually you're right, hotel rates in dubai have fallen down fo 3-4 star hotels. So you might as well stay in a hotel and enjoy the sumptuous breakfast buffets. Even Le Meriden is good and at a similar price.
