Guys...anyone here been to Madrid before? Wanted to know about how good is it for shopping for electronics? Any further info about the place would help.

Ask Markettantrik / MT3DS or whatever the man in green calls himself now. He's been to Spain plenty I think.

I dont know about electronics shopping but I do recommend that you take a stadium tour of the Santiago Bernabeau if you are even a bit of a football fan. Plaza Mayor is another place you must visit. Also, opt for the city tour buses as your mode of transport since you can hop on or off at any stop throughout the day and they also have a guide which is very informative.

Planning to take a trip to Nepal on the first weekend of April. Alone, or may be with a friend or two.. Any advise? Any specific place to stay you guys recommend in Kathmandu? Though read in the morning, that Nepal got some residue Jhatka of the earthquake too.. it's best I visit this place soon.

Which route are you going by ? I would recommend a road trip rather than a flight to Kathmandu.

If it's a flight, stay in Thamel in Kathmandu. Probably the best place to be during weekends. (And remember Nepal's weekend means Friday & Saturday. Sunday is a working day !) Thamel is well connected with taxis (basically Maruti 800s/Omnis) even during late night. There are various casinos in and near the area. You can go to Pashupatinath temple in case you are religious. Go for some shopping on New Road which is sort of a 'Thok market' for bags, DVDs, clothes etc. King's Road has a small museum if you are into it. Also continuing on the King's Road there are many good eatery shops around including Pizza Hut, Lobsters, KFC, BR etc etc. Most of the shops have happy meal timings (half prices) somewhere around the evenings. There are many nice discos around the town but it's kinda hard for a foreigner to locate them.

Word of advice: Haggle about the rates EVERYWHERE. At hotels, taxis, shopping counters. EVERYWHERE.

You can even go for Kayaking, River rafting & Bungee jumping from Kathmandu.

Next place as you are coming down the altitude is Manokamna. Another religious place but the scenic part are the mountains surrounding it. Plus you need to take a steep ropeway to reach the temple. Kinda good for a day's visit. Go early in the morning and make sure you come down well in time as the queue gets pretty long.

Next you can branch off to either Pokhra or Chitwan. Chitwan has a nice Tiger sanctuary. No tigers visible though. Nevertheless a nice visit.

Pokhra has umpteen places to visit. Glamorous hotels, expensive casinos, superb food cuisine, bat caves, river resorts, PARA GLIDING :wOOtjumpy: etc. Seriously one place you can't miss in Nepal. I would recommend to hire bikes in Pokhra as most of the places as 3-4kms apart and you'll rake up a huge bill if you all are hiring a taxi. Bike's the way to go as the place is quite scenic.

Palpa is another good place worth visiting. Basically a hill station with nothing but snow peaked mountains surrounding it. Go there if you are in a mood to relax.

Will update in case I remember more about it.

Wow Thanks.. I ve booked Grand Hyatt at Kathmandu for now.. Unfortunately I just have 2nd and 3rd as full days in nepal.. gotta be back on 4th. I am taking a flight to Kathmandu from Mumbai. Are you saying Pokhra is safe for a Solo woman traveller? I would love to do Adventure sport like paragliding and kayaking but am alittle scared to do it when I guess, I am travelling alone. Are there some Adventure club, I can get in touch with where I can get company??

Hmm. Safe during the day. Night-times are another matter as Nepal is a haven for drug addicts. Plus since most of the places close down by 8, it get's all the more weird. Only things open after 8 are casinos and dance bars. But again going to Pokhra alone kinda defeats the purpose. It's much more fun with friends.

For adventure tours you can contact the hotel management. Most of them carry bookings for the same.

Hmm.. My close friends are upset about my plan to visit Nepal solo.. Since I ve made up my mind, most probably atleast one of them will accompany me. Let's see.

Thanks Fatman. Will ask you in case I have more doubts.

Yup. At least 1 friend would be good ! :good:

Ok lads and ladies, the end of the month sees me with 4 days in Mumbai. Other than the usual tourist attractions, any recommendations for food joints (street food as well as high end joints), bars etc. as well as how best to get a feel for the city.

I have my ideas, but, suggestions welcome.

PS: If any of you Mumbaikars are around, would be great to put faces to screennames.

Go go go ! Getting a local by your side is very very helpful.

Momos are the best in Nepal. Specially the street ones ! :P

Thupkas are a hit or miss chance. You will like them if you love gravy noodles.

Their is this small joint in Thamel (forgot the name :P) where me and my friends used to go EVERY SINGLE DAY (for the time we stayed in Kathmandu). They have the most awesome collection of Kathi rolls & sandwiches I've ever eaten. Couple that with some superb light beer (mostly flavored) and it was :wOOtjumpy: :wOOtjumpy:

But sorry don't remember the name.

AFAIR, most of the good foodie areas are in Thamel (as most tourists stay there) or King's Road. Go for some travelling to Manokamna/Pokhra if you can.
