New PS3 40 Gig (Bought in India) Owner. Just a few Q's

Hey people, I have been reading threads off 306indians for the last few days and am happy to see such an active community. I have been closely reading the 'Spin of Death' PS3 thread and I am glad that I bought an official i.e. Indian PS3 40 gig.

To introduce myself (I sure know therez an introduction lounge, but this is better, I am too lazy u know :ranting:), I am Gaurav Seth, from Nerul (Palm Beach Road Navi Mumbai). Have been an old timer at www.techenclave.com. I have worked with CHIP and with CNBC tech2.com as a tech reviewer for more than 1 1/2 years and am currently pursuing my MBA from SIES college in Nerul.

I need help from you guys.

1. I am getting a 24 inch LCD (the Dell E248WFP) which as DVI (with HDCP) and VGA inputs and comes bundled with VGA and DVI cables. Now, of what I have read a little bit on the web, I see there is a HDMI to DVI convertor available (just like DVI to VGA ones). I would be interested in getting one of those. Could anyone tell me where can I source it and for how much? The DVI adapter would only take care of the video, would I get audio from the normal A/V cable bundled along with the PS3 at the same time ?

2.I have purchased burnout paradise along with the console. How are the scenes of exchanging game titles here on this forum?. Anyone PS3 owner from Navi Mumbai?

3.I dont have much time now a days to follow the firmware update scenes and the homebrew community (which I used to very ardently with my PSP). Any new firmware that I should keep away from ?

4. Iwould be receiving the console by 7 in the evening, is there a game or movie bundled with the 40 gig version?

You can get this from electronic store i believe...though i will suggest to hook up your pc with the monitor and get a seprate HDMI-DVI cable itself.

For audio use the Scart connector(normal a/v cable) and select that as your sound output in sound settings.

Hey AtheK, thanks for a prompt reply, appreciated :ranting:

I was just looking at ebay india and found , these

HDMI to DVI adapter - 350 bucks

HDMI to DVI cable - 1400 bucks

1. The adapter (HDMI to DVI) just costs 350 bucks, where as the cable (HDMI to DVI) costs 1400 bucks. Since, I do have a DVI to DVI cable, I wouldnt wanna spend 1400 bucks. The adapter seller mentioned on ebay is from Delhi. Could anyone give me a mumbai or navi mumbai lead ?

Hey people....thanks for a very warm welcome. ;)

Guys.....near the launch time of the PS3, I had read that the PSP can be used as a PS3 controller........does that claim still hold true ?......I mean, can you ?

yes, thats true. but at present they work with PS1 classics on PS3 but not for other PSN downloads or PS3 BD titles. You may browse all the media on PS3 remotely from PSP though.
