Marriage and Gaming : I do?

Just curious... how do you guys deal with it if your SO feels you shouldn't be gaming or that gaming is a kids thing and you should grow up? :scratchchin:

In most cases it helps to compare it with time spent regularly watching saas-bahu serials and such. Doesn't your other have any pastime in which you have no interest?

Its something you really enjoy and at the least you should expect your SO to understand that.

Make her sit through one of your games. I suggest Uncharted. She will get to see a dude on screen, understand that its not easy to move ahead in a game and might even start to understand why you like it so much. Or show her some games where you have big boobs rosies jumping around on the screen, with their arse moving more than the pole dancers. She will definitely understand that the video games are no more for kids!

If she is very angry.. get her to play burnout paradise (It's my favorite game!) I recommend it for all girls out there. Awesome stress buster!

If she still doesn't show any interest in your gaming.. Try and balance your time. Give her attention in between gaming as you clear a level, pause your game, go take a walk talk to her and then come back to gaming. Women mostly nag when they feel ignored. Keep her involved and she wont complain.

What if she feels offended at gratuitous nudity and objectification of women in said "big boobs rosies jumping around" scenes? I mean women folk are angry as it is when it comes to item songs and p0rn, why should this be different?

Agreed with gaming becoming more and more mainstream, or at the very least acceptable. Why, the other day (ok some years back) my sister was casually playing halo 2 on an old pc, and even I had'd played that ever before- I kind of jumped from pc to ps2 in early 00s. Dont know where she got it from but it was not looking unnatural, odd yes. She hasnt picked a game after that, save for occasional angry birds but general acceptability has increased. A lot of it, to the chagrin of many "hardcores", owes to Wii and motion gaming.

I dont game anymore in any form but it is nice to see it getting exposure. Of course, it does spill out nerd rage in real life, which is pathetic to witness to but I blame that more on face book infused entitlement than anything else.

Thanks guys  . I'm not married or anything, but I was just curious about this. I've had a girlfriend who groans every time I tell her I spent the night gaming, so I guess I was just kinda preparing for the future (which is probably in the next few years).

Hmm... yeah. That's kinda what I was thinking too. It should be shown that gaming is no different than anything else that relaxes your mind or something takes you away from the usual mundane tasks. :good:

:good: but, just hypothetically, your SO could be thinking that she's doing you a favor by making you reduce playing games, coz she probably thinks that there are more fun things to do elsewhere.

Gaming is for kids is so long gone. All those girls playing angry birds all day. With mobile games getting so popular nobody can still hang on to that gaming is for girls notion.

I don't know. I guess it is more because of how long we gamers spend playing games. You don't sit through an Angry Birds game for 3 hours at a stretch, without distractions.

Great points. Thanks meg. That looks like a very good way to go about things and I'm sure I'll take a few pointers from it. :good:

Abe ye sab faltu ki baatein chhod. Next time when you guys meet and you tell her about your all night gaming, if she groans, just grab her by her waist.. pull her close to you.. look deep in her eyes and genuinely say,

"Jaanu! Apun game toh sirf isliye khelta hai, kyuki apne ko poore 32 inch (insert your tv screen size here) ke screen par siraf tu hi nazar aati hai!"

Then break into an 'AATI KYA KHANDAALA' dance sequence wherever you are!

Works for me. My wife understands my hunger for gaming, but gets really angry when I play games late in the night.

So when I realize my mistake, I leave the game, go in our room and find her with her long face.

That is when I do this. Initially, she pushes me away, but after two or three more grab attempts it works !! :D

Haha... the only difference is, the best dance I could probably do is something this:

I don't think it'll amuse her. :P

To be honest, at times even I get pissed off when I see the way these female characters are designed and the liberty a person has in the game, to mould them in any size/form/shape and get them to jump, fly and fight wearing almost nothing.. (like even a towel wrapped around her and stuff!) . I really rant on how the game makers are big time perverts to the amusement of my husband..but that's that. (sighs!)
