I dont know man. With Metro its hard to tell.

 

There were a bunch of screens in the first game that could have passed off for art concepts. They have got this mixture of great tech and art style that gels together really well.

Yes, I know, but still, those screenshots look too artistic to get transitioned into gameplay. I'll be really happy if I'm proved wrong, but as of now, I'm not buying them :P

With Metro it's genuinely hard to tell. The game running in full glory is jawdropping good looking - so what if it can chew up PCs like Crysis did back in the day.

Metro Last Light Better Optimized Than 2033

 

GeForce.com's Andy Burnes had the opportunity to interview 4A Games' Studio Communications Lead Huw Beynon at the Gamescom 2011 show floor. The pair went into a deep discussion regarding performance and gameplay tweaks for one of the best-looking games we've ever seen, Metro: Last Light.

 

In the video, Beynon talks about how the 2012-bound title is already better optimized than its predecessor, Metro 2033. In the past, PC gamers have complained that a super computer would be needed to max out the 2010-released title. However, 4A Games was able to run an alpha build of Last Light on a single GeForce GTX 590 smoothly in 1080p with all the bells and whistles enabled.

Some of the technical features that Last Light will support are DirectX 11, Tessellation, advanced depth of field, dynamic physics movements, volumetric fog, and large amounts of particle effects. Beynon talks about how proud 4A Games is to be a PC developer and said the company has a desire to make high-end PCs sing.

 

In addition to the aforementioned features, Last Light will also support NVIDIA 3D Vision. With the high geometric level of detail in the game, Beynon thinks Last Light just begs to be played in 3D.

 

On the gameplay front, Beynon talks about how the game promotes dynamic action. This means players won't be able to camp around spots as defensive structures might crumble before them. Blasting these walls down would be the overhauled and smarter artificial intelligence.

 

While Last Light's single-player portion appears to be shaping up nicely. Beynon confirmed that the game will also feature a multiplayer component. Assuaging fears that adding multiplayer may detract from the single-player campaign, Beynon said, "Trust us." While he didn't elaborate on the multiplayer, he added, "It's something we really wanted to do."

4A Games Metro sequel looks stunning on in-house engine.

 

NowGamer's team on the ground at Gamescom has seen THQ's upcoming shooter Metro: Last Light up close and personal, comparing the game's impressive visuals to those in Battlefield 3.

 

NowGamer asked 4A Games' Studio Communications Lead Huw Beynon how the Metro: Last Light team achieved such technically-accomplished looks.

 

"It's an in-house engine," he told us. "It's great being able to work on our own tech, as adding new features and changing the code is much easier. We're really going for dynamic destruction as a key gameplay mechanic to mix up the feeling of combat, and there are DX11 effects in there, as well as dynamic lighting."

 

Beynon added that on PC the shooter manages the golden combination of 60fps/1080p.

 

"The PC build we're showing at Gamescom wavers between 50-60fps, and runs at 1080p," he confirmed. "By the time we release next year, more people should be able to afford the tech to run the game at full spec."

So is Metro 2033 worth picking up, from an FPS perspective.

Absolutely! It's extremely atmospheric and engrossing, not to mention visually stunning. My current rig couldn't bear the load of this game, so I had to settle for the 360 version, and believe me, the graphics were amazing and the performance was extremely stable.
