Halo studio 343 Industries is offering only the most authentic of Halo: Combat Evolved experiences at this year's Halo Fest, letting players go hands on with the Anniversary remake of the Xbox original with its original controller, the beastly gamepad nicknamed the "Duke."

343 Industries' Frank O'Connor let slip on the NeoGAF forum that the studio is "trying to get some OG Dukes rebuilt with 360 guts for Halo Fest." Good news for Halo Fest attendees, but perhaps bittersweet for those who would love to get their huge hands on an Xbox 360 compatible Duke.

O'Connor clarified that 343 is "planning on having about six made, by people who have been doing the same thing for years." It also plans to auction off the custom-made controllers for charity.

Giant Bomb followed up with 343 Industries on its Duke controller plans, learning that the extremely limited run is being made with original Xbox controllers harvested from a thrift store, cleaned up and customized for the Halo-centric event. Don't expect to be able to buy these things in stores.

Halo Fest will run alongside PAX Prime 2011, from Friday, August 26 to Sunday, August 28 at the Washington State Convention Center. Admission is free with your PAX Prime badge purchase.

lol

This and the Controller S were better than the 360 controller - of course, IMO.

Nah Black and white buttons kinda ruined it. But swap them for bumpers and you are spot on.

Yeah! Otherwise the controller was perfect. Plus, the anologs felt so much better. 360s' feel cheaper.

Halo Anniversary Kinect support confirmed

Microsoft Game Studios corporate vice-president Phil Spencer has confirmed that 343 Industries' tasty-looking Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will support Kinect.

The remark slipped out during an interview with Gamespot. "Core focus for us in our press briefing this year with Kinect actually came from two sides," Spencer explained.

"As a first-party, we believe that Kinect will be important to all genres of games, be it racing games with Forza, combat games like Ryse. Even games like Halo Anniversary has Kinect integration."

Spencer wouldn't reveal the precise nature of Anniversary's Kinect functionality, but his comments (also to Gamespot) last week may serve as some indication.

"It's not a mandate that everything we do in first party has to support Kinect right now. But I will say, specifically with voice, that there are some things that just seem to make navigating and playing games so much easier...that I would guess the answer will be yes in the end that you'll see all first-party games using some form of Kinect functionality."

Voice control is the one feature we can imagine gelling naturally with Combat Evolved's gunplay. Imagine ordering UNSC marines to dig in behind a tank as you trundle towards the Covenant lines, or having them distract Elites while you circle round to a turret.

Kinect evangelist Kudo Tsunoda has suggested it may take years for Kinect to fulfil its potential.
