^ If you want detachable cable, then you have to pay the premium, gaming headsets generally do not have that option. Also, then you will have to purchase a microphone separately.

So, you can look at the Audio Technica ATH-m50X at the least for that part.

You can get a basic sound-card but mostly it is not necessary, model to look out for is the ASUS Xonar DG.

Thanks! But I don't think I have that budget for ATH-M50X. I am planning to buy a game, so will ATH-M30X suffice? :)

This is what I have been thinking of as well. The old Razr ones are dying and instead of getting a gaming headset with average sound for 5kish I was thinking of grabbing the Sony MDR 7506 or the AT 30x and pairing that with a cheap mic.

^ thanks for the links.

Also, i have doing some read up as well on them...Getting high quality headphones doesn't make our music or games better to hear..I believe majority of games have compressed audio (except MGS 4)..

@Panda Audio Technica headphones are monitor headphones and are good for music and that too if you are listening to FLAC audio..Can't say the same for gaming..

It doesn't? :-(

Or are they at least good for gaming? If not, which one would you pick up among these?

  • Sennheiser HD 280 PRO
  • Sony MDR7506 Pro
  • Audio Technica ATH-M40x

Help me, please! :(

Just pick a good stereo headset. All of the above are stereo systems, having none of the fancy 'surround sound' stuff going on.

Kingston HyperX Cloud Core looks good to me too.

No detachable cable, yes but large sized drivers, decent compatibility around platforms and a palatable price tag.
