Resident Evil Turns 15

Recommended Posts

It's a time for birthdays in the video game industry. Over the last twelve months we've seen three well-known series - Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda and Dragon Quest - observe their 25th birthdays. The festivities have so far comprised of some pretty standard fare, including re-released and re-mastered games, musical performances, limited edition merchandise and more.

But to mark the 15th birthday of the Resident Evil series (known as Biohazard in Japan), Capcom teamed up with Tokyo's EA Shooting Bar to throw fans what might just be the coolest video game birthday party ever. Here, "EA" has nothing to do with the software developer of the same name; it's an English rendering of the Japanese phonetic spelling of the word "air." You see, the bar's centerpiece is a ten-meter air gun shooting range. And for one month this year, the staff has replaced all of the regular targets to give customers the opportunity to shoot at zombies in real life.
