~The TV Shows Thread~

The finale just makes it so much worse.

Its like they wasted the entire sixth season without going anywhere with Teds story. Now the finale is about Barney getting married. So you just know the entire 7th season is gonna be about that with a cliff hanger at the end of that season at the wedding.

If they had wrapped things up in 4-5 seasons this could have been a classic. Now its just like Friends, way past its prime.

pretty good ending to this season of white collar. this season definitely the best writing the series has had since it started. i don't like how they split their seasons though... it's apparently coming back in january or so for another 6 episodes before going on break again till next summer. why can't they just air seasons in one shot instead of splitting it up into ridiculously small chunks. i don't think there has ever been a series where i thought 6 episodes in a season was good enough.

just watched this week's true blood... shocking ending and i was pretty pissed until i read the preview blurb of next week's episode. note to people who write those blurbs: don't invalidate cliffhangers from the previous episode in the 3 line preview you write for the next one :|

Haven't seen all seasons of White Collar but the current one on SW is getting mildly better.

Also one show which is good in small spurts is probably The IT Crowd. Sadly it's just 3 seasons. :(

Anyhow, True Blood any good ? What is it actually about ? Vampire romance/Action/Horror/Thriller ?

so true blood is about a small town in lousiana. the existence of vampires is known to everyone, and they walk freely among humans. some humans still don't like them, others tolerate them and others actually idol worship them. they are not allowed to kill or feed on humans, but instead they are supposed to drink a synthetic blood which comes in bottles (it's called 'true blood', hence the name of the show) and it is sold over the counter in bars and stuff. anyway, the show is not just about vampires... any type of supernatural entity you can imagine is shown here. werewolves, witches, fairies, shapeshifters, you name it, it's here. there's a thin core story over the series (it's actually based on a series of books) but in general, the show is about what happens in that town. when you said romance/action/horror/thriller, the show has basically everything and more. and it's completely, and i mean completely f**ked up in a way only alan ball shows can be. if you've ever watched six feet under, you'd know what i mean. every episode is more of a mindf**k than the previous one. pretty entertaining stuff, lots of sex and violence (although not on the scale of say spartacus). it is worth watching though, definitely.

true blood just got renewed for season 5 this evening, unsurprisingly. also, suits got renewed for a 16 episode season 2, which is neat.

Watching the Wire, started Season 3. Definitely the most well-written drama series I've seen so far. What next after the Wire? In mind :

  • Spartacus : Blood and Sand
  • Breaking Bad
  • Game of Thrones
  • Mad Men

I personally prefer shows that are complete. Watching episodes back to back and then all of a sudden down to one a week ruins the flow.

On a side note, finished Freaks and Geeks + Undeclared last month. Good stuff, very easy to pick up. Pity neither of the shows got extended.

@piper

1.GOT

2. Spartacus: Blood and Sand

3. Spartacus: Gods of the Arena

4. Breaking Bad (only cause Spartacus are 12 eps, so they get over quickly)

Sounds great. I was contemplating picking up blus for this (S1-S3) & Mad Men (S1-S4). Only gripe is the season collections are purely available in UK (where MM S3 & 4 are RL) and the US prices (RF) are too bloody costly.

Probably will have to acquire it by other means. :|
