avkash
it may be true, I mean they can still sell the 360 games this way without the need to produce 360's anymore once the new console comes up will help windows 8 sales as well as the tablet market with smaller live games i see a lot of thought behind this Edit: Sam is so right, it is not as much a game changer as it is a push to windows 8, all of the 360 games available to play is a great boon and the thing is that all of the games will be playable with only a single config change, I mean if one 360 game will work on that config than all will definitely much better than the guess work when each PC game is announced I think I will so get a new PC box and hook it up to my second TV
HundredProofSam
Also, IIRC Microsoft had said that the Xbox 360 is forward compatible, so Xbox 360 games will be playable on the next Xbox, so I doubt this is their way of removing backward compatibility from the next console. AtheK
Ya hardware requirements will still be a bitch, but they can always come up with Xbox 360 compatiable certified Laptops, if it has the sticker it runs it, if it does not have it, well buy on your own risk. devil_angel
Putting lipstick on a pig and renaming it to Xbox won't change much IMHO. Brilliant analogy Ya hardware requirements will still be a bitch, but they can always come up with Xbox 360 compatiable certified Laptops, if it has the sticker it runs it, if it does not have it, well buy on your own risk. Yeah, and those will come with proprietary parts. HDD will cost a fortune, for ex. People will be buying powerful Xbox'es without knowing it
avkash
Imagine the confusion at retail. Customer walks into Croma. Sees Xbox 360 consoles and Xbox 360 compatible laptops. The result is: the idea is to stop producing 360 when the nextBox comes and THEN sell the certified laptop I can't believe that you could not get that
Right
No it's not gonna work and I don't think MS is targeting that. Why would one like to play sub-hd games on pc? They do not have too many xbox exclusives which missed PC either. Don't expect people going on shopping spree for games which released for 360 3 years back, to play them on win 8. Lastly, gaming consoles are machines dedicated for gaming only. They don't have to worry about multiple tasks like pc does, memory is managed much better, so even to emulate an obsolete h/w like 360, it would require a mighty pc. abhi90
They make more money from game sales. but still, it will mean no paid online subs, unless they implement it, or no console and no kinect. plus dev's would also object, since they now have to only keep a configuration in mind but if they have to make it for the pc then :|
Karooo
You cannot emulate the 10MB eDram in the 360, that has like 250GB/s bandwidth. Besides they wouldn't dilute the Xbox brand like this.

avkash
Still wouldn't make sense. Margin structures on hardware are shot to sh*t anyway. If they're selling certifications they'll be making less on margin and value. Not to mention getting all the manufacturers to play nice. they do not make money from hardware sales like you have said yourself so the idea is even more lucrative, stop producing hardware at all and still continue the software sales this could all still be a very vague idea but it will sure be good for countries where students mostly buy laptops for studies/college work if by paying just say 5000 extra they get a guarantee that ALL of the 360 games will play on it - well i know a lot of people who will fall for that the problem (for lack of a better word) with PC gaming is that it is so unpredictable, i mean game A will work, b may work, C well nobody knows that is solved so beautifully here and totally out of context here, but yes widows 8 needs sales push, the biggest revenue for windows comes from corporates who are still to upgrade to windows 7, i see no reason that they will adopt 8 a lot of the software in daily usage may not be compatible at the very start although that discussion is worthless here as the corporates will definitely not need it to be 360 certified they need the casual crowd to pic it up, legitimately, for them to get the money this is a good push for them

MarketTantrik
Considering that Windows 7 is just the fastest selling OS ever, the most pre-ordered product on Amazon and at one time, sold 7 copies every second, I really don't think MS is hurting one bit in that department. They certainly aren't. They have just announced sales of 400 million licenses for Windows 7 and over 100 million licenses for Office 2010.

It's not that simple. Let's say an Xbox 360-compatible PC must have 2 GB RAM. The problem is PCs do a lot of other stuff that also uses up RAM, so you're never guaranteed that the required resources are available for the game. Unless they have an Xbox 360 mode within Windows 8 that shuts down other programs. I don't see that happening.
Choron ka raja
Probably just a emulator inbuilt in Windows OS. Official emulator is nice, for newcomers, say if they want to play gears 1-3, before trying gears 4 on xbox 720 (just a speculation). For current owners, it will not be so good though. AtheK
memory management will be done by windows, if it sees a Xbox game launched it can automatically free up Ram. There are tons of way to achieve that, or it can prompt the user that he needs to close certain programs before he can run the game recommending the programs. Simple Programming, no rocket science.
