As awesome as it would be I really dont see this happening for a whole mess of reasons. At least not in the way people are expecting it to be like.

If MS start building pre made PCs (ala Apple) there is a slim chance this could happen. That would let them lock down on the hardware and the software. And that would mean it would be basically a console that could run a PC OS not a PC that could run console games. And yes, that would kinda negate the whole point of PC gaming. Then again I dont think MS ever got the point of PC gaming.

Exciting!! What I understand that, its the software thatwhat matter at the end - not the hardware; software (read game etc) are soul ofthe hardware. MS is trying to push xbox live/xbox platform as a service-ecosystem for all of their supported hardware. Considering MS is the creatorof Windows, DirectX and Xbox360, bring xbox360 games to pc via this service isnot impossible. I am sure they have predicted well the current hardware growthand average configuration of future pcs/laptops/net books/mobile phone etc. IfValve as a game publisher/developer can bring Steam and make it successful, MShas far better chances of making a Xbox gaming ecosystem in coming future. MSmust understand that their strength leis on software not the hardware (rememberRROD fiasco) - they can sell crappy hardware with better software & still beprofitable

they do not need to create hardware, just sell a sticker which says the config in the machine is certified to run 360 games, simple stuff (because the base config will be same like say X ram and Y video ram)

just like the stickers you get on laptops these days, the ones with Nvedia, AMD, Intel, Windows 7, a similar one, albeit a more tested.
