Noctis
Where does it say that SD is being removed? From what I can read in the article its only HD through component, so this is not going to affect those who play on SD.
avkash
correct, only the HD TVs will not be able to connect with a component cable that is all people just need to whine, morons
Bird Bird Bird
yea I was on a crt till now & never faced a problem or felt a need for HDtv such comments are irritating Same here. Played on SDTV for nearly a year and a half. The only problem is you can't read whatever direction/subtitles are written. Not much of a loss unless a game has tonnes and tonnes of writing. Solitaire
This is not true. A 22 inch 720p capable LCD TV having HDMI input costs around 8k in India, and 8k is VERY CHEAP for someone who is getting a 20k PS3 and plans to buy 2.5k games. And people who play PS3 games on a CRT TV need to stop, they dont deserve a PS3 anyway. Sadly no negative rep button. Not everyone can afford to have several TVs all around the house and all LCD / Plasma / LED-backed LCD with HDMI ports. It's like saying if I have a 19inch monitor and someone else has a 22 inch but both have a top-end SLI setup, only the 22 inch monitor guy should be allowed to play. Like saying "only people with Bimmers and Mercs should be allowed to use this road, the rest can wait till they can afford a BMW cos you can get a really cheap corporate edition Bimmer without a sunroof at 20-30 lakhs max. I used to play on a normal CRT screen of 32 inches or 34 (a SONY WEGA) whenever my folks wanted me out of the living room with the 42 inch LCD. And my audio-out was never via HDMI because though my parents have more than enough money they do not approve of spending it on tech which I will use only for gaming or movie-viewing. I remember atleast 1 of the main KZ2 players (I think it was best of the bestest player Shantz though I could be wrong) who used to game with a CRT Television and not an LCD for quite a while. Sure Sony might be following a general industry-wide edict but that doesn't mean a customer like you should say that people who've been using a facility should no longer deserve to play using their older TVs because they don't want to spend 8k more. Not everyone goes "Oooh let's buy a PS3.. now how about a new monitor with HDMI JUST for the PS3" These days people throw money around too much to realize its value. Some sane people might want to save that 8k if possible and use it on an older tv until they can afford a decent large screen LCD. And yeah, that 2.5k per game is no excuse either. Plenty of folks buy them used at lower rates or borrow and play half their games. It makes sense to upgrade now to a better TV but no, I totally disagree with the "they don't deserve to play it" angle. Forgive me for saying it, but that's just being an elitist douchebag. Always buy a first gen Sony device. And have it go down in flames cos of some really shitty solder .... and without warranty if you take the effort to get it to India when it hasn't released. That's very harsh to say bro. People who have paid to own a PS3 deserve it. It doesn't concern which output they use. And yes, I think people who still want to use or do not have any option other than the CRT TV would find a work around. Something like a convertor to aid them. +1 I don't think they're removing the ability to connect to an SD TV though, I'm just replying to the comment made about the 'deserving' thing. They are not, I don't know how this discussion on SD started. HD will be restricted on component and composite would still work.

Some of the games (this gen) that I completed on an SD TV, that come to my mind now: Gears 1, Burnout Revenge, PGR3, Halo 3, PDZ and GTA 4 Give me a +1 rep for calling you the bestest player of KZ2 The Bestestestest Kz2 player in IVG is Obaid bhai. CarbonCore
I use that port as an earthing output because of the current leakage in my flat (old building + monsoon) and because this stupid slim unit power cable has only two leads, no earthing lead like phat PS3 (long live crazy Ken). So yeah, count me in one of the whiners EDIT: Oh I thought they're removing the port all together, guess not.
