And the hype video for the main event couldn't have been more perfect:

I don't have cable otherwise would have paid the full 35 dollars for this PPV. Am currently looking at streaming options. There is the option to subscribe to NJPW World which carries this PPV for 999 yen, but that will only have Japanese commentary. The English commentary version is available for streaming on an Android/iOS app called Flipps for the full 35 dollar price, but I don't know how I can watch it on my monitor from that, and I don't want to pay to watch on a phone. Has anyone here heard of this Flipps app, can it be used on the PC somehow?

- Jim Ross posted a new blog entry, here are the highlights…

On Interviewing Dixie Carter: Had a great conversation with Dixie Carter Tuesday night for next week’s podcast that drops on Tuesday January 6 on podcastone.com. Dixie answered all my questions and there were plenty of them in the hour plus conversation. Impact Wrestling debuts the first week of January on Destination America. We addressed Vince Russo, Bobby Lashley, Bobby Roode, AJ Styles, Mike Tenay the upcoming NYC TV tapings, and she touched on how her company was going to essentially be re-branded. I hope that they succeed and I’m anxious to watch their first show, which will also be the debut of Josh Mathews and Taz as the new broadcast team. This is a really good show and I hope that you will join us as always as a new show drops every Tuesday night at 9 pm ET.

On WrestleKingdom Possibly Being The Last Wrestling Event He Calls: I certainly don’t want to sound like an endless amount of wrestlers who retire multiple times but the simple truth of my broadcasting assignment this Sunday is that it well could well my last one. I have no wrestling broadcast gigs booked after this Sunday and unless something comes along that i can’t pass on Sunday could easily be the last major PPV for which I ever provide play by play. I’m not against doing the occasional wrestling show but it’s going to take something special to get me out of Oklahoma on a regular basis.

On Daniel Bryan’s Return: Big question for WWE is, can they get Daniel Bryan back to the level that he was prior to his medial issues? It’s certainly doable but will need careful strategizing. Funny how getting one specific talent back on TV makes the entire presentation have a somewhat different feel. Hopefully, the WM31 money bouts are on paper in pencil, at worst, because the key to building a successful WrestleMania or any major event is the proverbial build that creates viable anticipation for the fans. Some creative types out work themselves by doing all they can to make a major card unpredictable when that isn’t necessary whatsoever. Making a card logical is the key and then save your surprises for the endings of the matches.

On TNA Re-Signing Kurt Angle: Smart move by TNA to re-sign Kurt Angle and if they utilize Kurt properly, he will remain a significant asset. By properly, I mean wrestling occasionally and only at significant events in main event level matches. Kurt has reached the “attraction” stage of his career and there is no reason to look at him as a “regular” talent any longer. Via creative booking, Kurt can provide the necessary “rub” that older stars should do for the younger talents who are going to be counted on as future, main eventers. That “rub” doesn’t have to be physical either.

And, just paid for the first time to watch wrestling! Great feeling after being a wrestling fan for so many years. Kinda feels like buying your first legit game after playing with pirated ones for all your life. I just hope I don't fall asleep though(it runs from 1 am to 5 am in my timezone, so 3 more hours to go, mistakenly wrote the 2.5 hours thing in the above post).

Will wait for "other" links :fear:

Just finished watching. 999 yen well-spent, it's certainly worth "catching" from "other" links later.

From Mike Powelll's review at prowrestling.net :

(On Nakamura vs Ibushi):

Greatness. I loved this match. As good as the Styles vs. Naito match was, this was even better. The last two matches alone are more than worth the price of the pay-per-view if you are on the fence. Nakamura is the star, but Ibushi very impressive. I don't think Ross was laying it on thick. I think he was one hundred percent sincere with his post match praise.

(On the whole show after main-event):

Another excellent match. What an amazing three matches to close the show. I love the Okada tears afterward. I'm not sure how much it plays into his character, but either way the emotion made the match and the event feel even more monumental. The first half of the night felt rushed and had too many tag matches, but it built very nicely to the big three matches at the end of the night. I'm amazed that this four-hour show that went until shortly before 5:00 a.m. my time flew by. It held my interest from start to finish and peaked in a very memorable way during the last 90 minutes.

It really was great to hear Jim Ross back on play-by-play. I wish Matt Striker wouldn't have felt the need to tell us that right after the main event concluded, but I thought they worked well together for the most part aside from my previous Striker critique. Striker felt overly enthusiastic to show his knowledge early on, but that knowledge definitely came in handy and I think their chemistry could only improve if they end up working together again on a future NJPW event. I don't know how Ross came off with NJPW diehards, but it came off to this NJPW novice like he did his homework and was as genuinely wowed by the action in the big matches as much as anyone. He may not have possessed the emotion that he had for some of his great WWE calls, but I think that's understandable considering he told those stories all year long about characters he was invested in. There were times when I found myself wishing Striker would shut up so Ross could do his thing, but overall they enhanced the show in their own ways.

As for ordering a replay if you didn't see the show, yes, absolutely. You can go into this show without knowing a thing about New Japan Pro Wrestling and I would be shocked if you didn't come away thrilled with your purchase. If you enjoy great pro wrestling, then you owe it to yourself to see this event.

For those interested, the last three matches(Okada vs Tanahashi, AJ Styles vs Tetsuya Naito, and Nakamura vs Kota Ibushi) along with Suzuki vs Sakuraba and Ishii vs Makabe are must-see matches. 4 hours flew by so fast, and I didn't even order the English version. English version would have been much more epic with Jim Ross and Matt Striker on commentary. Will catch Styles vs Naito again when it appears on dailymotion just to hear JR calling an AJ Styles match.

Someone uploaded Ibushi vs Nakamura(English version, but it is mirrored, not a big issue) on Youtube, and he is uploading other matches as well. Watch it before it gets taken down, as this is a very strong MOTYC(even though the year just started, it's going to be very difficult to top this match) and has got 4.5-5 star reviews on every wrestling site. I'm watching it again to listen to the English commentary:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLHbbg4We2o

The English version seems to have lower audience sound, and I found the Japanese commentary to be surprisingly more exciting(even though I cannot understand Japanese) than JR/Striker, as their voices conveyed a sense of urgency and enthusiasm that JR/Striker couldn't convey as well. JR really needs to hang his boots(microphones?) at this point imo.

Since you're praising it a lot I guess I'll wait for the HD links :fear:

Full PPV uploaded here:

It's in 480p, not 720p, but is in a very good quality(better than that youtube upload). Just re-watched Styles vs Naito, was great to hear JR in an AJ match.
