Taker is/was already over. Lesnar had all the tools and Vince made the most of it by giving Lesnar a monster push. Taker did the right thing by putting Lesnar over. The only complaint the WWE could have is that after the push he received and going clean over big names like The Rock, HHH and Undertaker, Lesnar didn't stay very long. They gave him a big push yes, but ultimately it was Brock's talent that made him successful. They've been trying to emulate what they've done with Brock with several other superstars. People like Sheamus and Del Rio were pushed to the moon soon after they debuted, but none of them had Brock's physical gifts or the 'it factor' that Lesnar possessed. The only gripe the WWE could have is that he left the early. They were banking on him to take over from the Rock and Austin to be the face of the company for the next decade. But Brock grew tired of their traveling schedule and wanted to test himself elsewhere. Its his life and I respect his choice to seek out a new career. And your current gen favorite is Cena?
