strategy
50min backup , OMG r u kidding me.. , I have the same UPS , never tried to test the backup time while running it with a PS3 only, but on my PC it only gives max. 5min. of backup time , maybe its because of the 8800 GTX beast which take so much power even on idle.. i am not kidding .......it does give 50 min backup when my PS3 and monitor are switched on............its a two battery ups so thats to be expected!! Notice i have not connected my z5500 with the UPS cause if i connect the 50 min backup shrinks to 10 minutes only!!
bips3421
Helpful link showing power consumption during gameplay Image But i'hv this problem that my 500 VA UPS goes into long BEEP and switches off the PS3 immediately when there is a power cut. It happens randomly, sometimes it works normally. Am in a fix!

It happens randomly, sometimes it works normally. Am in a fix! dude...when your UPS switches off after a long BEEP...it's not able to support the power surge...you have a generator or invertor backup or something? that coming online maybe producing a surge which is overloading the UPS...get the fuse checked in case its not been fried already... and is it a local one or something like APC>
bips3421
Thanks, i guess its some kind of power surge when the backup generator starts (after like a min). Today i switched off the main plug when power went off and didn't see the long BEEEEP!.. hopefully thatz what we have to do! Next time though i'll try switching on the plug sometime after the generator has started.
Phaseolus
the cheap ups/inverters have a square wave and not a sinusoidal wave voltage output , and can harm your ps3 . sony has explicitly warned against connecting the ps3 throgh a inverter. Guys I have a questtion abt this old post. Now the I have my PS3 connected to a ups but its a normal square wave one.. Now When there is electricity like normal, the UPS is conducting that normally to the PS3 right? and not giving it the square wave out put.. It reverts to that only when there is a power cut right? Just want to clarify.. BEcause as soon there is a power cut i turn the PS3 of to prevent damage.. The main reason for the UPS is for power fluctuations and to prevent corruption of my hard drive during updates playing games etc... Just want a clarification .. Thanks.. blackheart2925
dude...sorry for not being able to provide an exact answer but the following link may help somewhat - http://www.practical-home-theater-guide.co...r-supplies.html
Phaseolus
Thanks.. Kinda complicated but i get the basic idea.. So basically its says that UPS are not ideal but better than nothing.. Right??
blackheart2925
Phas...i think i finally googled up the answer... The UPS will output whatever it is receiving from the input AC while it is in the online state. When the UPS is on battery, it will output a step-approximated sine wave. More sensitive power supplies cannot run off of the step-approximated sine wave and could potentially drop the load on a power outage. With Power Factor Corrected power supplies, we recommend using a Smart-UPS. this is from the APC forums check out the link below http://forums.isxusergroups.com/thread.jsp...76&tstart=
Phaseolus
Thanks a bunch dude.. good to know that UPS are not harming our ps3s when there is normal power.
j4jobi1
Hey folks. Got myself a spanking new 40GB PS3 yesterday. Connected it to my SD TV for now with the composite and will get a new LCD monitor soon for the HD experience. Now I'm worried how the console handles power cut situations. Do you think I should connect it to my UPS? Or is it safe to just leave it as it is? PS3 ---> UPS is the best to way to save ur expensive gadgets. mine is connected LCD+PS3+hometheater with a UPS n working perfect.
Shantz
^^ which UPS are you using to connect all 3? whts the rating? BTW I just bought a microtek 800VA, and PS3 is humming along nicely on it..Didn't try pulling out the chord and testing it though also need to test it by connecting my 29" CRT with it.. Death Stryke
^Dude, test it and check whether your ps3 switches off or not...Some UPS's have a delay problem. I had it wid microtek and sukam. Now not using any. Of course it helps that I stay close to the TN electricity minister's house, so powecuts are a rarity ...<touchwood>
SchneideR
I connected a PC, PS3 and a 32" LCD to my APC UPS ES - 650 and it blew right @ my face. Lesson learnt, connect either a PS3 or a PC, never both ... BTW my UPS lasts for 10-15 min with a PS3 and an LCD connected to it... Coming back to the topic, yes you should connect it to a UPS since it not only protects the hardware from power failures but also from voltage fluctuations... Lesson learnt, connect either a PS3 or a PC, never both ... hey man i have my PC ,my PS3 ,a Dell SP2208WFP monitor, Cambridge soundworks speakers ( 2.1 ) pretty powerful ( you could use them for a full on house party )and my Dlink 615 router and if i'm not running the ps3 i get about 20 minutes of backup time. if i'm running the ps3 as well then i get about 6 minutes or so. if i'm just running the ps3 then i get about 14-16 minutes of backup time. using an APC BACK-UPS ES650 Can't use my gaming rig ( from my sig ) even by itself on this coz it can't handle it I have a lower power amd pc which i use when i'm not gaming.( athlon 64 2800+ ) Coming back to the topic, yes you should connect it to a UPS since it not only protects the hardware from power failures but also from voltage fluctuations... This i completely agree with. CHeerio THen.
Shantz
Now, this is weird..everyone here using a microtek 800va with PS3 is saying that its working nicely for them, but for me it is not..When electricity goes, my ps3 switches off and restarts and then just the red LED on the PS3 keeps flashing. If I try to switch off and switch on the PS3 on UPS supply it doesn't start and even the red LED goes off...help guys..what can i do?

Dunno after that i never used a UPS but for you, it did come back on after some time right? in my case, PS3 is completely unable to start at all on UPS.. Death Stryke
^Oh, yeah mine restarted and stayed on though. But anyway, the purpose of the UPS is not solved for either of us. I need a UPS which wont even make my PS3 restart. Then its of some use, like shutting down properly or pausing downloads etc
