Buzz
^^ This might be because of the slow switchover time of the UPS. You can't really do anything about it. If it is in warranty, then complain to them that switchover is slow and hope they are able to do something. PS3 power supply somehow expects a much faster switchover than a PC power supply. At least suggest some good UPS since this one is not in warrenty. BTW can this be repaired?

Nah I don't think so since I am able to do a cold start on the same UPS. Even my friend is using a 500 VA ups without any difficulty.
devil_angel
I have spoken to both MS and Sony CC regarding this and while Sony CC were unclear, MS CC said clearly that they wouldn't suggest connecting the console to a UPS. But regardless of that, my consoles have been connected to a UPS and it has saved my rear many a time.

Shantz
At least suggest some good UPS since this one is not in warrenty. BTW can this be repaired? I think APC works fine, at least that's what lot of folks are using on IVG. I have tried microtek and it's a hit and a miss. I have 2 of microtek UPSs. One 800VA one which had 100% same issue as yours. I complained to them aroudn 50 times then they recalibrated the relay board and fixed the issue and it worked for a while but then came back again. Another 600va UPS that I have from microtek shows this problem around 50% of the time. So 1 out of 2 times it is not able to keep the PS3 working during electricity failure. So I'd advise you to stay away from Microtek at least.

kunallkw
APC UPS is the best , don't stick to low quality UPS , they are ATNC ... i did a stupid thing buying the microtek one shantz has and same issue , the service guys are retards and argue n then throw some tech jargons , run away btw shantz nailed it in his post , fat ps3's want power asap and offline ups are not that quick especially the local ones , so get a APC normal comp wala offline UPS and
Joy
^ Stupid BS. , been using Microtek 800VA since 05 , no problems what so ever , many times have both PC and Ps3 on switched at the same time during power cut , which is very rare here. Biks , how old is ur UPS , u problem seems like a problem due to weak battery , batteries have a life cycle , once it gets weak it can't handle the sudden switch of load on it of a machine in a power cut hence the shutdown. Happened with me too earlier , replaced both my UPS batteries in 09. My PS3 was working fine during power cut that time but PC was shutting down as my PC is hefty one when it comes to power consumption, had 8800GTX that time. If u have a voltmeter , u can check the voltage it gives when in load under no direct power , the Microtek engineer that came to my house checked that and found batteries were weak and wasn't able to handle my PC. Bird Bird Bird
BS Microtek isnt low quality company Even though I'm using a Microtek 800 myself for both PC & PS3, BS post is BS. Just TRY calling them in case your backup goes kaput. Trust me you will end up buying a new one rather than go through the ordeal of getting it serviced with/without warranty. When it works, it's good. If it doesn't, just throw the junk. Don't even bother calling them :|

Just_Another_Guy
mine doesn't work on inverter ... I plug it in and no red stand-by light on ps3 probably due to that non-perfect sinusoidal wave generation by inverters
