spindoctor
so i just had another look. mediafire, megaupload and sendspace are working now on reliance. i don't know if it's temporary or whether they have actually gone back on blocking the sites. interestingly, rapidshare still isn't working. however, it doesn't give the 'site is blocked' message any more, it just throws a 404. a traceroute to rapidshare.com shows that it is redirecting to the localhost. i think that means they have hardcoded rapidshare to resolve to 127.0.0.1 in their dns servers. i wonder what would happen if i put in the correct ip for rapidshare.com in my hosts file. would that override their dns settings? Bird Bird Bird
Pretty sure this was some kinda testing phase as only the file-sharing sites were blocked !
Solitaire
Pretty sure this was some kinda testing phase as only the file-sharing sites were blocked ! That's what I think too. Now all the big corporates need to do is find a judge who knows nothing about file sharing sites and get him to sign a John Doe order blanket banning them for the sake of each movie these corporate houses finance and release.... Reliance has shown it can be done... and with our country's judiciary being so technologically well-versed we're doomed

spindoctor
maybe better, just change the DNS to an open DNS or Google DNS i have 1 reliance dns ip and 1 opendns ip configured. i need the reliance dns ip because i need to relogin every 24 hours and the authentication server cannot be resolved by any dns other than the reliance one. in theory i could switch the dns ip every day to login or whenever i needed to open the sites but like i said earlier, i don't even use these sites so it doesn't matter at all to me. not going to bother trying out all these tricks. rahul
This is effing retarded. If this indeed is a conspiracy by the movie industry, what retard downloads movies from filesharing websites? Or may be I'm just missing out on something here..

Still the fact remains that the 'what retard' you refer to would be a retard for using torrents as against filesharing websites. Easier to track. spindoctor
well reliance unblocked all the sites. found out just now because i accidentally clicked a mediafire link which worked. checked a couple of other sites, they work too. read on techneclave that they were unblocked a week ago. so much for that stupid idea. Bird Bird Bird
Apparently Reliance is sending the "John Doe" notices to bittorrent sites also ! I think the lawyers know well enough that all those sites operate out of India. Why will the comply with the slut notice ?
