This is probably a better way of allowing people to try the game, instead of guest passes, that allowed drop hackers to getaway scott free. spindoctor Posted August 5, 2011 Report Share Posted August 5, 2011 On a related note, will HoTS (what an apt acronym!) be a standalone expansion? it's unknown at this point but i hope not. if it was standalone only, then it would definitely be a full priced game. if it requires the base game to play, then there's hope it will cost less. ideally they should have both, a full priced game which has the entire multiplayer content included and the lesser priced one that only contains the zerg campaign. spindoctor Posted August 5, 2011 Report Share Posted August 5, 2011 ^^ and even lesser priced one with only the new bits from the multiplayer i think the multiplayer changes will be a free upgrade for all existing owners. i don't think they can afford to split their multiplayer community based on who bought the content and who didn't. if their history with wow is anything to go by, they will release expansions for 40$ which require the base game to be bought previously, and of course the battlechest for the full 60$ which includes both games. Liquid ocelot Posted August 5, 2011 Report Share Posted August 5, 2011 ^^Blizzard announced separate ladders for WOL,HoTS and glowing blades of glory...or whatever it was called The argument being, sc and bw had separate ladders and that they would continue to monitor balance and patch WOL after the other come out.(wonder how many will still play WoL though). And they're also going to possibly remove or redesign/remove some of the units in WOL, units currently being looked at are the overseer and the immortal.
