Please Help!!! (Screen Format setting)

I recently updated my modded Xbox 360 console thru LIVE for the first time.

But I still have the "Screen format" setting greyed out. After the FALL update Its supposedly got to display something called reference level once we get inside "Screen format".

I am using the Component display thats included.

Reference Level or Black Level: If you're using the Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable, the Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable, or the Xbox 360 HDMI Cable, then screen format options include Reference Level. The default setting, Standard, delivers the normal range of white and black levels that your TV or monitor supports. Select Intermediate to increase the level of white and black in the video output. Select Expanded to maximize black level. Reference level is sometimes used to make a picture sharper, and you can experiment with what format suits your viewing pleasure.

But my "Screen Format" is greyed out...The only time I can access Screen format is when I set the display to 480p, and even then I dont get the "Reference Level" setting inside "Screen Format". This becomes important if I am to get "non-washed-out" 1080i with DVD movies when I switch over to VGA.

Someone please help. Whats happening here.

Even I'm using component cables and the "Screen Format" settng is greyed out for me too. But I havent faced any issues with washed out HD content. I have the HD-DVD addon drive and several HD-DVD flicks in addition to many HD rips. All look terrific running on both my LCD TVs at 720p and 1080i.

once u pop in an DivX/Xvid movie, it should automatically ask you to download an update for xvid support (separate from the firmware update)....once u download that, the movies should work...so make sure ur connected to XBL the first time u play a DivX/Xvid movie

peace

Thanks. Will try that :sign_omg:

Hmm ok..

Maybe its fixed internally. But most people have that seting enabled. We missed out.

I believe that setting is available only on HDMI enabled X360s.

Thats not true mate. I have seen quite a few Xbox 360 Pro consoles with that setting enabled. We have a few Xbox 360 at work and they have that setting enabled. Apart from reference level, they also have a Black Level setting inside Screen format(specific to US consoles).

Would help if everyone who have updated their consoles thru LIVE confirmed if their Screen format setting is enabled.

You were right there mate. I am now able to play xvids.

But the Screen Format setting is disabled.

Maybe its nt available for component. But strange that the Xbox 360 guys said it should be available with HD-AV component too.

Hey Sam,

Another question -

Do you need to connect to XBL just for the first time to watch Divx/xvid movies?

So, in the future, I don't need to be connected to XBL to watch movies?

according to me i have to always connect to XBL first before watching divx movies and once the flick starts you can log out of it but without logging in it does not work...

I get the reference levels in my x360 - i use a dragon vga cable. it's a core x360 so definitely not console type dependent. are you using a monitor or a TV? and what type?

Also, what are the resolution options that you get?
