Horde must be the most fun co-op mode in a game EVER!

And everyone who wasn't that overly impressed with first game just needs to give up and buy it already. Forget trying it, this is as good a straight up must buy as you're ever going to get! EVERYTHING has been improved. The combat may still rely on shooting from cover but the sheer spectacle on screen is such that you'll never ever feel like thats all you're doing (unlike the first game). It genuinely feels like Epic set out to make sure that each and every level had twice the detail and twice the awe inducing set-pieces as before. I am half way through Act 2 (of 5) and I just don't want it to end. The world is so much more detailed, owing to incidentals like the war journal collectables rather than just cog tags like before and the cutscenes are plenty with playable breaks in action come often enough that you get to take in the world around you. Its all much more involving than the first game!

Graphics Special Mention: The only serious competition this is going to get in the graphics category (both technical and art) this year is from GTA 4 and MGS 4 [Edit: LBP also]. I dreaded the underground levels in the first game because the environments and repetitive battles bored me to death. Gears 2 on the other hand succeeds in bringing colour to every level, including the ones underground. The Grandiose Locust architecture makes repeat playthroughs something to look forward to with its Eastern influenced arches and pillars.

@Neo

You have torn that little piece of cardboard thingy from the 'Download Exclusive Flashback' pamphlet or whatever rite?? Its sorta like a flap on the left of some numbers at the bottom.

All the three codes are printed there, if you have 2 surely the 3rd one will be there.

MT and I just did a bit of co-op in Act 2 - man this game is such a ridiculous amount of fun. The art direction is so much improved. It's not just improved textures - the addition of a whole new colour palette helps a lot.

According to early reports, Gears of War 2 emerged with massive sales, chalking up an incredible 2.1 million unit on day one!

According to early retailer reports, and user polls, Gears of War 2 is shaping up to be one of the biggest Xbox 360 titles to date, putting it in very similar territory to blockbusters 'Halo 3' and 'Grand Theft Auto IV'

Using the aforementioned data, Gears of War 2 looks to have debuted to midnight and Friday sales of 1,400,000 units in North America, and 700,000 units in 'Others' territories. This would represent about two thirds of Halo 3's massive debut, which wound up with 3.8 million units sold it's first week on the market.

Due to the US Election taking place on the 4th November, the release date for Gears 2 was moved back to Friday the 7th meaning that "week one" sales will be made up of two days sales - expected to come in at around 2.5 million worldwide. The implication of this is that week two sales should show a lower than normal dropoff so it is entirely possible that the game may hit 3.5 million sold by the end of week two - in just nine days.

As you can see, Gears of War 2 is shaping up to be a formidable competitor in the November NPD data, and looks to eclipse Gears of War 1 worldwide sales by the end of the year (which is at 5.2 million units).
