New Gears of War 2 Documentary: Marcus Fenix = Cap'n Crunch

November can't come quickly enough and every new video and trailer is not helping. With that said, Epic dropped into our laps a lengthy documentary on one of the more underrated aspects of Gears of War 2: the sound. Cliffy B and the GoW crew give you the lowdown with the new video, called "Touch of Sound":

"Many people don't realize how much sound contributes to immersion in a game. This video reveals how much thought and effort Epic Games puts into the incredibly rich variety of sounds in Gears of War 2: from voice acting to musical score, sound effects and more."

Reasons We're Excited for Gears of War 2

Meat Shields

We loved chain-sawing Locusts into bloody chunks, but we'd like something a little more personal. Although Gears of War 2 still lets us carve up our foes like deli meat, it also allows us to grab and use them as shields, Meat Shields, to be exact. After taking a Locust hostage, we can use its body to absorb gunfire. Then when we're done, we can snap its neck and cast its limp carcass aside.

Chainsaw Duels

In the original Gears, cutting someone in half is as easy as running up to them and pressing the B button. Not so in the sequel. Sometimes, you'll lock chainsaws with your opponent and will have to rapidly mash B in order to win the battle. Fail and you'll watch your character flail about as a sharp blades sink into their soft flesh.

Continuing the fight

SPOILER:

Killing General RAAM and detonating the Lightmass Bomb slowed the Locust offensive, but it didn't stop 'em.

Six months after the end of the first Gears, the Locusts swallow the cities of Montevado and Tollen, forcing Marcus Fenix, Dominic Santiago, Cole and Baird back into action. We'll use new weapons, meet new faces and square off against creepier enemies. Hundreds of Locusts will flood the screen; we'll destroy pieces of the environment and even ride a Brumak. Sounds like an explosion filled, blood soaked good time.

New Weapons

There's nothing wrong with a trusty Lancer Assault rifle, but Gears of War 2 has a few new interesting toys. The Poison Grenade unleashes a cloud of dangerous gas that temporarily blinds enemies, the Scorcher Flamethrower engulfs them in red-hot death and now you can use COG grenades as mines, detonating them at just the right moment while sending bits and pieces of humans and aliens sailing through the air.

Multiplayer

Gears of War is a great game, but its story mode takes less than eight hours to beat. Gears of War 2's campaign could suffer from the similar issue, but that's why there's multiplayer. After kicking Locust a*s, we'll happily hop online and slaughter countless human opponents in brutal five-on-five matches. Of course, we'll gladly put our differences aside and enjoy Horde, GOW 2's co-op mode that lets up to five players team up to fight unending waves of Locusts.

Unlocking Achievements

A new Xbox 360 game means plenty of achievements to unlock, and Gears of War 2 has plenty. Completing the game on Insane Difficulty (no small feat) nets you 150 points, while killing 100,000 enemies gets you 50. If you're not that hardcore, there are numerous 10 point achievements, and if you beat Gears of War and have the save file on your hard drive, you'll unlock Linked Achievements that grant you access to Anthony Carmine, Minh Young Kim and General RAAM skins in multiplayer.

Sweet Looking Graphics

We gushed over the original Gears of Wars' visuals, and its sequel looks even better. More characters on screen, destructible environments, realistic looking fire, gore and detailed characters highlight what should be one of the year's most gorgeous video games.

Killing You Online

Listen, you're great, but when it comes to multiplayer, it's either you or us, and we have no intention of dying. Honestly, we can't wait to blow off your head, step on your neck, chainsaw you into shark bait and leave you to rot (or re-spawn). We were going to say it's nothing personal, but that's a lie.
