MoonStruckHorrors
It's not what it looks like actually. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/12/12/bitcomposer-acquire-s-t-a-l-k-e-r-from-strygatsky/ Those of you who have been following the saga of the demise of GSC and the subsequent death of STALKER 2 might recall that the property was held by GSC owner Sergiy Grygorovich, while most of the original dev team went off to form Vostok and work on Survarium. Now, though, there’s been a new development, with this news from German publisher bitComposer: “bitComposer Entertainment AG has acquired the exclusive worldwide rights for future video game adaptations of the acclaimed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. brand from Boris Natanovich Strygatsky (sic). This is the second strong international license that the Eschborn-based company has acquired within the space of a few years, and this move ensures that the successful series will continue.” More details will apparently appear “shortly”, although it’s not entirely clear what rights are held here – given that the Stalker brand held by the authors is different from that held by the game creators, and could be an error or mistranslation. (And this perhaps rubbishes previous rumours that Bethesda had acquired the rights.) Quite who will make this new game, though, will be the burning question. Thanks to the huge flashing array of IM windows which lit up to inform me of this news.
ALPHA17
I am just hoping that someone carries forward the saga without turning it into a shooter-survival-shock-horror game. If the new studio can recreate the chill you get once you first enter the tunnels of Agroprom Agriculture institute and hear the Bloodsucker's Roar OR the Controller ambush, that studio can take my money and let me get the ATMOS-F.E.A.R. FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK, ERMAHGERD, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH RUN!
MoonStruckHorrors
Official note of GSC Game World In view of the rumors appearing in press, we find it necessary to inform that GSC Game World and Sergey Grigorovich remain to be the sole owners of all the intellectual property rights to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game series and the brand overall, including all the trademarks, the game universe, the technology etc. This can be easily verified with the trademark services online. From time to time news on the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. brand purchase by this or that company appear over the Internet. We relate such a keen interest in the brand to its exceptional popularity. Even the purchase of rights to create a “Roadside picnic” book-based game by a small publisher is presented as the continuation of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise. We have doubts regarding the mentioned product by bitComposer (the publisher of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat on some territories), since the latter has significant debts in terms of fulfilling the obligations under the existing contract between our companies. dylanjosh
Posting here because there is no Stalker: SOC thread. So I'm just about to start SoC. Would like to know what mods to get. I read about a few and people on reddit are recommending against the Complete Mod because it changes the gameplay, and makes it easier or something? If this is your first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. title suggest that you play it on Veteran difficulty settings (vanilla edition) for the first run. If you enjoy the challenge and want to go more into this, please look at the MISERY Total conversion MOD. MISERY TC MOD @moddb. Hope this helps S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and fair roads where you travel. Finished it once & it's definitely something I wouldn't recommend to beginners.
ALPHA17
For Shadow of Chernobyl these are my personal preferences -- S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Lost Alpha L.U.R.K. The best S.T.A.L.K.E.R. MODs @moddb. I have played with Lost Alpha, somehow could not install MISERY so a guide will be helpful (with source of download). Hope this helps, Cheerio! 1) He's playing SoC. Then I suggest he plays vanilla @Veteran difficulty first. I think any S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game is scarier than most survival-horror / survival-shooter games on the market currently. With OR without MOD's. Have heard a lot about MISERY, need to try it. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Complete streamlines the experience in my opinion. MoonStruckHorrors
For Shadow of Chernobyl these are my personal preferences -- S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Lost Alpha L.U.R.K. I have played with Lost Alpha, somehow could not install MISERY so a guide will be helpful (with source of download). Lost alpha isn't even out yet. It just won the award for best upcoming mod of the year on Moddb. And Misery is a single file download. Install it & you're good to go. Source of download is obviously the moddb page of the mod. If you asked about installing something like Stalkersoup or SGM, I would understand. But Misery? Have you even tried? Have heard a lot about MISERY, need to try it. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Complete streamlines the experience in my opinion. You shouldn't recommend something you haven't played. And Complete doesn't streamline the experience. The only thing people complain about it is how it makes the game easy. Yes it does. Early detection - Removed the ability for NPC's to notice you at unrealistically large distances.Stealth - Knife and other critical sounds such as falling dead bodies, grass, and footsteps have been properly commented to reduce their sound radius, making the gameplay much more realistic. Death panic - Reduced the sound distance of death cries (in the original game it caused the entire camp to alert once one member was hit, as it was set to be heard at a great distance). This is the only thing Complete changes. In vanilla, NPCs detect you killing someone with a knife from halfway across the map even if they were sitting in a room. If that's the definition of better experience, then Complete does ruin it. I have finished the game with Complete & Vanilla both, multiple times. And IMO, Complete makes the game what it should be in the first place.

I am an idiot. =| No I do have the 4GB .MDZ MISERY file but I cannot seem to use it over the Call of Pripyat installation. I don't know about Easy (that is puritans speaking) but the game became a lot less stable for me. Apart from that I do not state anything. Never faced the issue of random hit-detection that you have stated whilst I was playing Shadow of Chernobyl OR Call of Pripyat. Clear Sky never got a copy so never played =| Sorry for wrong factual information on Lost Alpha. Also, just checked back with moddb about downloading MISERY, it says it is not present on any mirrors. Now what to do. I have a useless .mdx file and nothing more. =[ Edited December 27, 2012 by ALPHA17

Registered member can download the file directly from moddb most of the times. Make sure you get the patch too. And the issue is not hit-detection, it's detection by enemies. For instance if I kill an enemy stealthily in Delhi, his friends in Mumbai are gonna start marching towards me.

dylanjosh
Yeah I've noticed the detection issue. Weird as hell. I'm downloading Complete Mod. I'll play on Vanilla + Veteran though. If I find I don't like it, I'll mod it. Till now I'm liking it.
Big Boss
Ok I got Call of Pripyat today. Please suggest a proper mod which works on Steam version. I want the game to be slightly easy meaning guns should be like normal FPS (not like in Shadow of Chernobyl, where enemies could shoot me from trees and I couldn't shoot anyone straight in front unless I improved the skill), and that enemy detection stuff above, it should be realistic but not crazy like they detecting me if I knife someone. Well S.T.A.L.K.E.R series thrives on that kind of unreliable gunplay. Wait up till night time when its pitch black and the military starts chasing you with their flashlights on and a couple of them scary dogs give you a chase. Oh and if you are lucky there will be a huge thunder storm. Very few games give that.
Big Boss
Yeah but I dont need that unreliable gun part. Rest all is more than good enough for me to enjoy. I already beat SoC with some mod years back. It made gun play solid but everything remained the same. It was a solid experience. I want the similar for CoP as well. In real world guns jam (even the legendary AK47 / 74), are generally speaking not as accurate as CoD / BattleField make them to be and adding a scope to the gun does not mean you can plink targets half-a-mile away unless you are trained in the art of gun-laying and marksmanship. That is exactly my point. It is unreliable just the way real world guns are. I guess even a trained SAS can't hit everything every single time. All mods work with the Steam version. In fact, most of the newer mod installers install to the Steam directory by default. And Call of Pripyat vanilla is well balanced. The game world is fairly open and AI isn't as unforgiving as Shadow of Chernobyl. To be honest, it's really easy. Also, you can upgrade all the weapons for improved stats(Accuracy, handling, Recoil, etc.). Just make sure you repair your weapons every once in a while. Total Conversion mods like Sigorous, I Work Alone & Misery make all the weapons more accurate. But I recommend you play vanilla or get Complete mod.
