My Cause, My Voice

Have you ever read/faced the evils in society and felt you must do something about it? If words like Dowry Deaths, Sex Trafficking, Rape, Cruelty to Animals, Irresponsible disposal of Waste, Hunger, Poverty are not just words for you, then voice out your concerns.

Highlight the causes that you support and feel for and share this awareness with the like-minded IVGians.

This is not a debate forum, neither is this the place to discuss politics and politicians.

Let's just discuss how we can exercise our social and moral responsibility as a citizen and as human-beings and create a world we wish to live in.

Look into the mirror and start changing yourself. No one can influence another person.

I personally have only one motto: I dont try to revolutionize the world, but I dont try to screw around with it either. "Dont screw with the universe and the universe wont screw with you". I have been changing whenever Ive felt the need. That to me, is my way of making the world a better place. If every murderer, drug peddler, rapist, thief, politician started doing this, the world would be better place already.

nice...yaar...:good:

ah..i have done a little bit for environment i guess in my own way....whenever i go to market ..... i take one plastic one bag with me and many times reused that only ...i think abt a year or two since i started doing this...i must have easily saved above 200 plastic bags....also not tried to waste waters and all....electricity useage also has gone down from my side...and i have done some cleaning work also.....

all said and done i can still do a lot i guess........just outside my house there use to be this beautiful tall tree........but since past week construction work has started and it has been cut down.....i dont know what can i have done abt it....but something inside me just does not feel right....i have been seeing greenery vanishing from my city at such alarming rate...i have no words to say...so my concern is for future of children of kolkata who will ask their dad and mum to take them to mall and spend thousands there instead of like our generation who use to tell mum and dad to take us to parks......

sad that the future generation will never to experience what calmness a tree can bring inside you sitting under it....even when the sun is hot....

anyways just past few days ago only ...it was in newspaper here...i will look for it and scan it ...just for you guys to read....

Not just Kolkata, the treeless scenario is practically everywhere, be it the metros or small cities. And it's just getting worse. :(

When I went to Singapore, I saw they had a very good plan to tackle the greenery problem. Everytime a new building or complex comes up, there is a space compulsorily ear-marked for trees and plants. It has to be done up. It will be reviewed by a govt official and will be given a go-ahead for the rest of the complex. This is why you always find trees around every building there.

We should seriously consider adopting that.

South Delhi has something very similar, though I doubt the govt. involvement is that serious. Almost all the residential areas have a green belt around them.

With regards to greenery, Chandigarh is an awesome place. Fire up Google Earth and all you'll see over Chandigarh is a green cover.

Wow guys, It's nice to see that you support environmental concerns.

My father used to take us to a nursery on our birthday and used to ensure that we buy 20-50 saplings and plant them in the Colony. Multiply that by 4, since this was a Birthday tradition for all of us in the family. Later, when I grew up I used to visit Orphanage, Rehab Shelters and provide food/clothes to the under-privilaged. My Dad however ensured that I gave part of my accumulate dpocket-money towards my cause, whatever that may be. Like my brother supported Stray Dogs and their vaccination etc. And I used to support a particular church that housed mentally retarded and abondened children.

Point being, even if we do something seemingly small, it gives us immense satisfaction. We spend thousands in our birthday parties, whereas some of these things may cost us just a few hundreds but make someon'e s day , week or month!

Last time I checked this was a gaming forum

This is not gaming, there are other forums for these kind of threads.

You have by mistake landed on the General Chatter page, where there is world beyond gaming as well.. Besides, who said that gamers don't have eyes to see and mind to persue a cause that needs a mention or action? Gamers are as much part of a society as anybody else, don't you think?

:good: Thanks, your abundance of time has given me good nostalgia.

My point was that since the whole world is secreting salty tears on this very topic it would be refreshing to not have this topic on one of the gaming forums I frequently visit.

Yeah,I admit I had problems with the cliche ridden topic sue me

A friend of mine organised a trip to Prithvi Theatre for some kids from an underprivileged school in Mumbai in concert with Teach for India. It's not necessarily a grand gesture, but it was the first time these kids had seen the theatre live, up close and personal. The actors and producer made themselves available to talk to the kids afterwards, explain what was going on, and answer their questions. The guy who runs Teach for India suggested that to the extent that it is possible, it'd be great if other professions/areas opened up their lives in a similar manner. Give the kids an opportunity to be exposed to a wide variety of disciplines and ask their questions. If it's something you'd like to get behind, contact Teach for India.

I thought it was quite a valuable venture.

!(Women empowerment) & overpopulation are the ones I see more than once almost every week.

Particularly that first one.

The people that I *have to* deal with daily, in college, have got some really fantastic opinions when it comes to the other gender. Makes me think what they'll be like after 10 years from now, matched with some unlucky one. Also, this matching thing, where teen/<teen/adult girls are forced to marry some jerk just because they have to, sucks.

There was this women that used to work at my place.. she has 3 daughters. Like any other matchmaking fanatic, she married two of them at <18. Both girls were beaten, traumatized & sent back to home. One had minor injuries & the other one took 2-3 years to recover. I remember him talking with my mom when she was looking for a guy for the third one. She was scared. I felt horrible for not being able to do anything about it. :(
