skidred
well the part where we can control all 3 characters at any dormant time is ok but what about mission selection..i really doubt all 3 guys will have similar missions...if u finished SOME missions of a given protagonist then do we have to forcefully do the rest protagonist's mission do bring the story level... 'Pranay
Driving Quote: "The cars hold to the ground a bit better. we thought they were big and boatlike in GTA IV, and we feel like it has really leaped forward because we're able to run a little more physics on them. It feels more liek a racing game. There are not a lot of high-level racing games out there at the moment, and that itch is goign to be scratched by this game in a way maybe it hasn't been in previous GTAs" Â Shooting Quote: "We feel like we've evolved it on from where we had it in any previous game a long way. And nto just in terms of how it works, but also in terms of the core mechanics of how you get to the play the game" Â Melee combat Quote: "It's better than we've had in the past. How far we can push it. We will see depending on resources we allocate to it. It's never going to be as big a deal as shooting with the way that we make the game, but we do want it feel really fun and strong."
Heaven Angel
Many side activities are available to each of the three protagonists, but to drive home to differences in their personalities.  The new additions become predictable.Add dual-wielding to Sequel 2.Introduce co-op for sequel 3.Yeah, it's primarily a single-player game, but why not take a stab at multiplayer for sequel 4?  THE GREAT OUTDOORS  Grand Theft Auto V expands on extracurricular activities in a major way with options like yoga, triathlons, Jet Skiing, base jump-ing, tennis, and even a full-fledged golf game. "We've actually got a full golf course, which we're very pleased with because it's pretty fun," Houser says. "What we'd learned on the best aspects of GTA IV and Red Dead was that it's better to have one really good minigame built by a really good design team than five half-assed ones that aren't that fun. People will try everything, but if it's fun they'll invest more time into it."  NO ROMANCE IN THE AIR  Niko Bellic had several women available on speed dial to take on dates, but the cast of Grand Theft Auto V won't be spending its free time chasing tail. When asked if romance would return in GTA V. Houser says, "I don't think so, simply because of the nature of the characters. We weren't sure it would work, and we're doing lots of other new stuff.  CASUAL ENCOUNTERS  Walking through the streets of Liberty City in Grand Theft Auto IV, you would occasionally run across a pedestrian you could interact with. These random encounters are coming back in a bigger way for GTA V. When Franklin drove around Vespucci Beach briefly in the demo, we noticed a Jesus-looking preacher dressed in white robes speaking to his flock. He is just one of many pedestrians who have more to offer than a witty one-liner. "This time they are fully mo-capped, they've got a lot more to say, and you can interact with them a little more," Houser says. "There's a far greater array of them along with just huge numbers of other pedestrians and other systems, so it should feel like it's a lot easier to meet people and stumble into interaction as well if you want to."  DYNAMIC MISSIONS  Because the expansive frontier in Red Dead Redemption was so wide open, Rockstar Games devised a dynamic mission system that would present players with sce-narios they could either ignore or engage rather than making them wander aimlessly between mis-sions. This structure proved so successful that Rockstar is migrat-ing it over to Grand Theft Auto V When you're driving around in the country, you may see a broken-down car or hitchhiker on the side of the road. If you're the curious type, pull over and see what hap-pens. Going off-road in the desert, you may come across two parked cars and a sea of dead bodies around them. Did a Breaking Bad-style drug deal go bad? Investigate if you want. Dynamic missions extend into the heart of Los Santos as well. If you see a cash van, you can attack it to make noorurir oin a quick score, or if you're look-ing to do a good deed you could catch the mugger who grabbed a granny's purse.  MUTLTIPLAYER  Rockstar is saving the multiplayer reveal for another time, with Houser only offering, "We're very pleased with the direction it's head-ing. We're ever closer to nailing the fun and excitement of open-world multiplayer." Though we have to wait for hard details, we already know some of the basics. During the Max Payne 3 press blitz, Dan Houser confirmed to IGN that the Crew infrastructure introduced in that title will carry over into Grand Theft Auto V via the Social Club. Though Rockstar says much of the HUI) elements we saw during the demo were placeholder, we did notice that the multiplayer menu was located directly underneath the switch icons, which means players will probably enter the competitive modes through the single-player experience again. Given the single-player campaign's focus on heists, we hope Rockstar creates a dedicated cooperative/ competitive mode based around this concept as well.  LIVING THE HEIST LIFE  What brings these seemingly disparate characters together'? The pursuit of the almighty dollar. Each character has a fully fleshed-out story arc, but instead of waiting for the finale to introduce com-plex missions, Grand Theft Auto V peppers several complicated, multitiered heists in the vein of Grand Theft Auto IV's popular "Three Leaf Glover" mission across the narrative. "We really wanted to make heists a big theme in the game — and we'll demonstrate those later on — based on missions not just from GTA IV but from previous games that people really responded to," Houser says. "People are in love with doing the bank jobs, particularly when they feel like they have prepped the bank jobs. We've never felt we've done a great job with a bank job, so we decided, 'Let's properly invest the story and the mission design for some of the missions into making some of these built out series of heists.' That was a huge part of the story missions — trying to set the game apart from games we've done in the past." In addition to adding more big heists, Rockstar is also addressing mission diversity to leverage different pairings of the protagonists. "We want to move from having one character in a mission to having two to having three," Houser says. "This makes the missions feel distinct in that they feel high action but they will have a very different tone depending on who's on them, how many people are on them, and how much we're using switches to make it feel different." To demonstrate how this switch technology works mid-mission, Rockstar showcased a sce-nario where all three characters work together.   MAKING FRIENDS  Players won't be spending free time wining and dining women in Los Santos, but each protago-nist has his own cast of friends to interact with when they aren't performing heists or hanging out together. We asked Dan Houser to highlight a few Rockstar favorites:  Lamar: "I really like Lamar, who is Franklin's crazy friend. He's just a good sort of crazy - the guy who does the acting is brilliant. Franklin's kind of serious and ambitious, and Lamar's a more lunatic version from that world and he's just very funny."  Jimmy: "I love Jimmy, Michael's son. The actor captures the story of a whiny, lazy, pot smoking-20-year-old kid so brilliantly. They've got this awful and con-fused father-son relationship. You've never seen a relationship like that in a GTA game or in games before. You never see a lot of family stuff. So you have a full family thing that we are excited by, because it seems sort of fresh and weird."  Ron: "Ron is Trevor's best buddy - as much as Trevor can have a buddy. He's a paranoiac conspiracy theorist living in a neighbor-ing trailer. If Trevor is like the shark, he's like the remora. He's completely paranoid but terrified of this maniac he's got to spend time with."  Amanda: Michael's wife Amanda is great. The actress is brilliant and the vibe of them is just so funny because he's been awful to her and she's a really strong per-sonality as well. We've never had a woman like that in one of these games before. They've always been the gun-toting type or dam-sels in distress. Here's something completely different where she's bound to him by their past lives and they can't stand each other anymore. It's something that feels very fresh, feels like GTA, and it's just sort of amusing."  FAMILIAR FACES  Though he wouldn't name spe-cifics, Houser confirmed that some familiar faces from Grand Theft Auto IV and Episodes From cover story Liberty City may resurface in Los Santos. Just don't expect major characters like Niko Bellic or anyone from the PlayStation 2-era GTA games. "The five PS2 games are one universe, and this is the high definition universe, so they don't co-exist," Houser says. "You wouldn't ever see C.3 or Tommy Vercetti. They would be like myth-ical characters in this world who never existed."  THE LOS SANTOS ECONOMY  Past Grand Theft Auto games fea-tured the ability to purchase real estate to expand your criminal empire or collect homes. For GTA V. Rockstar is taking a different approach to creating an economy. "A valid criticism of GTA IV is that there wasn't enough to do with money at the end of the game," Houser says. "We are defi-nitely going to have a very vibrant and fun economy, from earlier in the game to after you've com-pleted everything. There won't be property, but there will be loads of other stuff."  YOU BETTER CALL SOMEBODY  Since Vice City, Rockstar has used a cell phone to drive game-play and give players new activi-ties to pursue. GTA V preserves the mobile-phone concept, but you won't be getting calls from friends all the time.   SHELVING THE CELEBRITIES  Past Grand Theft Auto games are remembered for their colorful casts of celebrity voice actors. The impressive roster of big name talent includes Ray Liotta, Samuel L. Jackson, Peter Fonda, and the late Dennis flopper. But when Rockstar moved into the high-definition era, they eschewed celebrity talent for major roles. This philosophy extends to Grand Theft Auto V as well, which has no major names cast as the main protagonists. We asked Rockstar Games vice president of creative Dan Houser about the reasoning behind this decision. "We've done two or three movie shoots for this game spread out through various three-week shoots," he says. "I don't think there would be many celebrities that would be available even if we wanted to spend the money on them for the amount that we've used them for. "The good thing about most famous actors is they can actually act very well or they can do their shtick really well. Sometimes it's one, sometimes it's the other. I think it was really useful on the PS2-era games for bringing these somewhat simplistic characters to life. "But when we went to P53 and 3601 think it would become a distraction if you were like, 'Well, that's a famous person.' Suddenly these characters start to feel like they were alive a lot more and you need that to sell them. As long as you have good actors, not knowing them actually is an advantage in terms of bringing the game to life. I can't see us moving past that for major parts in the game." 'Pranay
• GTA V "evolves nearly every mechanic, features the biggest world in series history and introduces a new technology that radically changes the way players control the game. • Three main characters are called Michael, Trevor and Frankie. • A quick menu can be called up to switch characters, the camera pulls away into a Google Earth-style vantage point and then drops into wherever the chosen character is • Trevor is described as having a "maniacal personality" • Trevor is in Blaine County, a barren, rundown desert region filled with bikers, meth heads and other people from the fringes of society • Characters can "flick off" people and people react differently depending on the area. In a rough-and-tumble • neighbourhood the reaction will be different from someone in a posh boutique store • Rockstar's playtester pours a trail of gas away from a vehicle and drops a zippo lighter on it, the flame travels back and causes a huge explosion. • Franklin is seen on Vespucci Beach looking for a car he's to repossess • Waterfront activities include a muscle beach gym • He drops the top of the car once he gets in • Ammu-Nation is back • Each character has his own personality motivation and skill set • They go about their daily business when you're not in control, so you might find them in surprising situations when you take control of them again • Each character has a fleshed out story arc • Complicated, multi-tiered heist missions inspired by GTA IV's Three Leaf Clover are "peppered" into the game • Heists are a big theme • Rockstar is addressing mission diversity in pairing characters, it showed off a mission involving all three characters • The trio need to perform a snatch-and-grab to get the FIB off their backs • Trevor berates security agent guarding a chopper, Michael urges him to calm down but he keeps running his mouth, he only agreed to do the mission in exchange for help springing his friend Brad out of jail. • Franklin isn't to comfortable with Trevor • The three change outfits and rapell down the side of a skyscraper, when they arrive players take control of Michael rapelling down, the mechanic is reminiscent of Rainbow Six Vegas • The musical score seems to react to the action • They extract the target by holding him hostage with one arm while pointing a gun at interrogators with the other, at that point an icon appears giving the player the option to switch character • You can stay as Michael and try and pick of the enemies or select franklin, switch to his perspective and snipe them from afar. • Transition is smooth and camera angle helps you adjust • During the chase through Los Santos the player can switch to Trevor to pilot the getaway, snipe the other pilots as Franklin, or fire an assault rifle out the back of a chopper as Michael • Rockstar is leveraging cinematic tricks learned from Max Payne
dylanjosh
I'm just gonna add what I wrote:    You can switch between the 3 AT ANY TIME Melee combat is better than they had in the past  Michael (early 40s) -The voice in the trailer is Michael -Retired bank robber. -Is in a witness protection program due to some deal with the FIB -Michaels wife: Amanda, gold digger? -Micahels children: Tracy and Jimmy  Trevor is the black guy Nothing much about him, he poorer, more ghetto Former war veteren with flight experience  -You switch characters from the menu -The map zooms out Google-earth style, then zooms back in to the character you choose -When you're not in control of the character, he goes about doing whatever. If you randomly switch control, you'll be surprised at the situations you're character is in -During missions, a prompt will pop up telling you can switch to another character. You can choose not to switch. -You can insult (flip off) anyone. R* recommends you do this to see different peoples reactions  -More vehicles than any other GTA game till date -BMX bike, mountain bikes, road bikes, dirt bikes, cars, trucks, copters, planes, ATV, jet ski etc  -Mt Chilliad is fully explorable -So is the fully detailed ocean floor  -Bank robberies are a big theme  -Many side missions -Some minigames unique to each character -Jet Skiing, Base jumping, tennis -No dating/romance stuff  -Niko won't be in the game at all, but some minor GTA4 char may be. -No property buying, but "loads of other stuff" (money related)  -More citizen interaction -RDR style random events
Heaven Angel
Summary: Â THE STORY Â - Three characters form an unlikely alliance to pull off a series of elaborate bank heists. Â - The "strongest plotted game" Rockstar have ever created. Â THE CHARACTERS Â - Three playable characters; Michael, a retired bank robber in witness protection and suffering from a quickly draining bank account (thanks to his over-exuberant wife); Trevor, a desert-dwelling, sociopathic former war veteran; and Franklin, an up-and-coming gangster with a taste for the high-life. Â - Freely switch between them at any time when not on a mission. Â - When you're not playing as them, they live out their own lives; when you return to them you will find them performing random actions that fit their personalities (e.g.: Michael will be with his family, Trevor will be terrorising locals in the country, and Franklin will be driving along Vespucci Beach). Â - Each character has been carefully created; they are their own individual with very different outlooks on life and the events that happen in the game. Â - They each come from different walks of life and you will find them living in different parts of the city (Michael in his lavish mansion, Trevor in a trailer in the desert, and Franklin in beach-side accomodation). Â - Each character has their own unique story arc, which intersect at key moments. Â THE SETTING Â - The game will take place in Los Santos (the GTA universe's answer to Los Angeles) and the surrounding countryside. Â - The largest open world Rockstar has ever created; including both interior and exterior locations the game world is bigger than those of Red Dead Redemption, San Andreas and GTA IV combined. Â - The expansive world includes beachfronts, wine country, a large wilderness area surrounding a fully climbable mountain, a Salton Sea region and a military base, as well as the diverse cityscape of Los Santos. Â - Small towns will also populate the rural areas of the game. Â - You better bring your scuba gear too; the ocean is fully explorable, and fully detailed. Â - The return to Los Santos was because Rockstar felt they had not fully explored the potential of the city in the "sketch-like" iteration in 2004's San Andreas. Â - West Coast culture and its potential for GTA-style satire was a big part in deciding on the location. Â - The bustling metropolis and its surrounding countryside promises to mesh the best features of the settings of Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption. Â THE GAMEPLAY Â - Rockstar has rebuilt most of the game's mechanics from the ground up. Â - Driving has been designed with racing games in mind; emphasis on physics and how the cars hold to the ground. Â - Apart from the hundreds of cars, motorbikes, trucks and boats, other vehicles include BMX bikes, mountain bikes, road bikes, helicopters, planes, ATVs and jet skis. Â - You don't need to wait until the end-game to take to the skies (Trevor, as a war veteran, even has a pilot's licence). Â - Shooting and melee combat has been refined a great deal, though Rockstar are keeping quiet on those subjects for now. Â - Ammu-Nation has made a return, replacing the back alley gun stores seen in GTA IV. Â - Weapons are now even more varied. One new addition is a gasoline canister you can dowse any target in. Either throw a match or leave a gasoline trail to ignite the target from a safe distance. Â - Numerous bank heist missions occur throughout the storyline. Â - Rockstar wanted to focus on mission variety; more elaborate missions (think IV's "Three Leaf Clover") will occur more often, replacing the often menial "A-to-B & kill something" mission structure seen in previous games. Â - Different missions will see the three protagonists acting alone, in pairs or all together. Â - A mission showcased to Game Informer saw the three anti-heroes storming a skyscraper in an attempt to kidnap a target. Michael rappelled down from the side of the building from a helicopter piloted by Trevor, while Franklin provided sniper fire from a neighbouring rooftop. At any moment in the mission, the player is free to switch between the characters. Want to storm the building yourself? Stay as Michael. Want to provide cover fire for Michael as he storms the building? Switch to Franklin. Ready for your escape? Fly the helicopter as Trevor or fire at your pursuers as one of the other characters. Â - Switching between characters is done via a radial menu. The transitions are quick and smooth. Â - For the first time in the series, the game features a dynamic musical score. Previous instalments have only featured a main theme. Edited November 8, 2012 by Heaven Angel

Nemo
Errr. Not feeling the 'switch characters on fly' option, seems like a cheap way to get replaybility. Prefer the gta4's idea of 3 separate story arcs overlapping each other at times.

Ph3N0M
If Niko is wrestling with the moral quandary of being unwillingly sucked into a life of crime in a cutscene, it creates a narrative dissonance when the player, assuming the role of Niko, fires rocket launchers at strangers in the middle of the street. Only gta games i liked till date were Vice City and San Andreas. Anyway whatever has been revealed about gta5 so far has renewed by love for gta again.  Also i hope the radio stations are good. Iirc vice city had the best radio , truly felt like the 80s and captured the south beach/miami theme very well.    TIme for PC upgrade  Sorry , ps3 /360 only.
