Overrated? Sure.. it doesn't deserve the 100's it got on metacritic. There were some very glaring problems with gameplay. Repetitive missions that got boring quickly.

GTA4 is awesome for many other things - which other games haven't been able to match up till now. The music, the radio, endearing characters - everyone from Niko, Roman, Brucie, Yusuf, the Packie family.. even the guy from TLAD.. I don't think any other game has such an array of likable characters. (maybe biowares games). Some of the best dialogue ever. The hilarious websites or periodic news articles describing what you did.. the tv shows.. which other game has so much detail? Even RDR didn't. And of course the city itself. When it released, it was best rendering of any city ever. And so f**ckin' life-like. When it rained you would see people buying newspapers and covering their heads and running. If you crash into a guy eating a hotdog, you took take a look at the bumper and see the hot dog splattered on the car :/

It's obvious A LOT of effort when into the game to polish it so well. It's unfortunate people can't appreciate the game for all this.

i don't care abt all that stuff..I want fun and addictive gameplay like SR3 and Sleeping dogs.......I enjoyed BOGT and Lost and Damned more than actual GTA4

That's essentially what zodka said. Good game, but over-hyped, and over-rated. :) And this one is looking more and more likely to be similar.

not impressed by the trailer :\

maybe it's because i read the gi article and already knew everything they were showing in the video. looks like a whole lot of scripting going on too. also not sure i liked the action comedy vibe that the trailer had, although i suppose that is a part of the gta heritage. gta 4 was the only one to really stray away from that.
