Crimson-Ivy
I bought a new ps3 in July, after the old one got YLOD. Everytime, I try to watch a video using the ps3 browser, it freezes up. Well, I can live with that... Lately I am unable to play most games because of the freezing issue. Until few days back it was just the downloaded games like NFS Shift2, Splinter cell etc. But now on every game this issue is cropping up. Is it because of overheating? There's enough space around the ps3. I read somewhere that going into safe mode and rebuilding database will help.. What do u guys think and also will it delete the downloaded games? I'm out of ideas. This is my 4th ps3 in 3 years..
Sackboy
If it's a ps3 bought in July then take it to the service center and get it replaced .. Simple stuff ..
Django_3101
Rebuilding database, restoring file system doesn't delete your downloaded games. It stays there as it is. I have tried this. Best option would be what Sacky suggested above
sagarjalvi
Rebuild the database. I was facing the same problem some weeks back and rebuilding the database fixed everything. If your PS3 is in warranty take it to sony as sackboy said

Noctis
I'm scared that the online passes and downloads will all go away if I let them do anything.. I tried rebuilding database. It dint help It won't, just deactivate the accounts first. Freezing is a bad sign and could be pointing to a ylod/sod a few months down the line. I suggest you get it replaced while you still can. Crimson-Ivy
Well, got a replacement for the ps3 from Sony since it was just 3 months old. It took almost 3 weeks. Sony used to replace ps3s in 4-5 days earlier.. Times have changed. The new one makes sound while reading discs.. Is it normal? Or maybe I'm paranoid. devil_angel
What kind of sound? If it's crackling noises that you hear, then it's fine.
Crimson-Ivy
Yep! Cracking sound from the drive trying to read the discs. It's normal? I never used to get that on the older one though.

You needn't bother then. It's not the drive. It'll mostly happen just a few minutes or seconds after you start the system. I read somewhere that it's due to plastic expanding on temp increase. But I've never bothered to worry about it, since day 1. And I usually do long stints (6 hours or more) on the PS3. So, you're good there, it's not an issue.
