Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us is the feature story in the latest issue of the UK PlayStation magazine, Play. Inside the publication that has four words on its cover that’s sure to ignite console wars, a few new tidbits on Naughty Dog’s latest PS3 exclusive are shared.

In the studios efforts to differentiate its new IP from its Uncharted franchise the developers of the TLOU are adding a gameplay mechanic not found in many games today-persistent health.

If you’re unfortunate enough to take the needed amount of damage that will require medical attention in The Last Of Us you’ll have to find time to use a medical kit for healing, assuming one happens to be at your disposal.

Also unlike in Uncharted taking on a group of enemies won’t be as easy as picking up a submachine gun and plowing through the opposition. In a game where every bullet counts The Last of Us will require careful thought and planning, or you could simply chose to avoid a confrontation all together.

Naughty Dog calls this system the “Balance of Power”, something inspired by the gun battle between Anton Chigurh and Llewelyn Moss in the American crime thriller No Country For Old Men.

“No movement, no dialogue, ambient sounds dominating the battle, it’s as far removed from Uncharted as you can get”, the magazine explains.

Sadly Play couldn’t get there hands on any new screenshots of the game, leaving us to continue to wait for our next peek at The Last of Us.
