SchizoidFreud
This. I wonder when the higher-ups are going to realize that developing skill sets is more important than imparting the sort of knowledge that our so called "system" does. The kind of pressure people put on kids taking these shitty, totally useless exams staggers me. It's ridiculous. Its worse since there are a f**kton of conservative people here. It is so, SO fked up that its not even funny and I do not know where to even begin. I have friends who have been forced to take Science after 10th and they've failed in every preboard and college exam they've given. I saw one of them crying after giving his Chemistry exam day before. I really hate it when people think the ones in Arts have no future and the only secured one is of the people in Science. The amount of pressure in 12th, for me, is a LOT lesser compared to what it was in 10th. My parents were really, really worried and now, the marks do not matter for sh*t. I've always had the love for History and Political Science. They're the ones who saved my @$$ back in 10th and the reason why I got over 70. Now, they've been replaced by Accounts and Business Studies....and I totally HATE both of em. Whats worse, is that you have mug EVERYTHING up. Thats the part which annoys me the most. Death Stryke
@Bikram ^High scores matter if you r aiming for a top college/university in whatever field. Of course if you r skilled and talented you dont even need a top school to succeed. Top schools/univs r basically just an easy passport to high paying jobs. Solitaire
Dude that is the problem. People think that marks are everything, but tell you what it is not. Even after such a poor result in 12th I am at a better position in life than my fellow school toppers right now. I am not saying that you shouldn't get good marks in boards but putting undue pressure on yourselves is also not right. You may think differently since you are a topper yourselves but people do have some limitations. Undue pressure? Come on bro, this is one of the few times in life when you gotta suck up all the pressure and abuse and go for it. I agree with people having limitations. However, there are a small number of people who make it big despite low marks, and they are a minority. Its a touch and go situation when your marks go down, and unless you're supremely talented at something, you won't make it. Just because one person did doesn't mean everyone must be able to do it. Yeah I know what you mean. I was lucky enough to have the freedom to choose what I wanted to do, and I feel sorry for those who didn't. Is the situation still that bad though? I mean, people are a lot more accepting of the new-age courses than they were 7 years ago, when I had to choose. Of course, the conservative hacks may still exist, but are they still the overwhelming majority? If so, that's f**king terrible. We haven't progressed an inch, then. I wouldn't know. I'm from a village here in Orissa and its still the same here. Every1 goes for Science, they suck at it, get bad marks and I do not know what happens after that. My mom has a couple of friends who're probably conservative.....I think, they're the ones who told her to put me in commerce once I said no to Science. I asked my mom and she told me that her friends told her, it would have been better if I was in Science coz that way, I'll have a lot of options open. f**k knows what means but it sure did ruin 2 years of my life. Like I said, the thing that sucks is that had I been in arts right now, I could have easily aimed for something around the 80s. Right now, I do not expect to go over even 70. I'm just happy that I'm not in Science.

He speaketh the truth. Unless your r very skilled and talented in whatever creative skill u have, its only safe to go the tried and tested way of studying hard..good marks..good college and good job. Its easy to say to follow your dream, but unless u r up for the challenge mentally and financially, I would suggest to keep the "career you love" as a backup/alternative career only
Buzz
Undue pressure? Come on bro, this is one of the few times in life when you gotta suck up all the pressure and abuse and go for it. You are absolutely right but sadly not everyone can do it at that age. This is why you see so many suicides these days which is very sad to see. Not everyone is mature like you bro
Nemo
@ umang wow. m in the same boat here bro. loved humanities (arts) in my 10th-11th but had to take up commerce against my wish, nah parents did not force, they were actually pretty understanding, a tad disappointed cause they wanted an engineer but never forced it on me. But it was the f**ked up sh*t school that forced me in commerce (after 3 weeks of 11th humanities) as they did not have enuff people for arts and i dunno how or why i acted like such a numb nut to NOT go and argue with them hang in there man. Dunno about your state boards but cbse are generally easy to go by.

Unless your r very skilled and talented in whatever creative skill u have, its only safe to go the tried and tested way of studying hard..good marks..good college and good job. See dude, I can try for the IIT or IIM, enter one of the top unis here and in the end, I'll probably get a job which pays a lot. But, I won't be doing something which I like. It is still better to try and do whatever you have the love for rather than take Science and study stuff which is COMPLETELY different compared to what you like. Getting into the top universities for engineering isn't exactly easy. And then, you have to study something which you do not have the least bit of interest in. I'd say, it only makes the matter worse.

People still think that E=MC2 is going to help people form proper sentences? oh hell yeah.. they do. and umang, its the same case in metros too. ok, not so much so as the interiors but i remember the bewilderment my friend's mom had when i told here about my stream choice after Xth exam- " beta arts ?? usme kya karoge ?? science le lo, options saare honge" Arre aunty for options i have to pass the exams first
