achilles
Mr. Hypocrite , aren't you already studying in one of the Top Ten B schools in India it's awrite. and i dint kill myself for it. it just happened. here again..the only problem i kinda think about sometimes comes across.. i really dont know what i want. i only know what i dont want. and if this hadn't happened, i had an open offer from NIFT which i now think wuda been better for me. best thing though..no dress code Like I said, the thing that sucks is that had I been in arts right now, I could have easily aimed for something around the 80s. Right now, I do not expect to go over even 70. who set up that figure anyway? as long as you're not failing it should b cool. most colleges anyway have a min cut off of 50%. so no sweat. @ DS.. nothing is true.. everything is permitted none of the higher edu institutes in India barring ISB and a couple here n there are actually any good. the higher education standard in top universities of the world really is different and awesome. SchizoidFreud
@ umang wow. m in the same boat here bro. loved humanities (arts) in my 10th-11th but had to take up commerce against my wish, nah parents did not force, they were actually pretty understanding, a tad disappointed cause they wanted an engineer but never forced it on me. It is the EXACT same case with me. My parents NEVER forced me to take Commerce, they were just worried about everything and not sure about Arts (couldn't contact a councillor as there are none here) and in the end, I agreed to do commerce (had ABSOLUTELY NO fking clue what it was). Turns out to be the worst mistake of my fking life. But it was the f**ked up sh*t school that forced me in commerce (after 3 weeks of 11th humanities) as they did not have enuff people for arts and i dunno how or why i acted like such a numb nut to NOT go and argue with them Thats fked the core. hang in there man. Dunno about your state boards but cbse are generally easy to go by. Yup...I'm still worried about Mathematics and a bit when it comes to Accounts too. I hope I do well. I have no idea about the state board either (as in, if the examination papers are easy or tough or whatever) but considering the 2 English papers which I've given only recently, I'd say there easy. Then again, f**k knows whats gonna happen in Accounts and Maths.
Noctis
See dude, I can try for the IIT or IIM, enter one of the top unis here and in the end, I'll probably get a job which pays a lot. But, I won't be doing something which I like. It is still better to try and do whatever you have the love for rather than take Science and study stuff which is COMPLETELY different compared to what you like. Getting into the top universities for engineering isn't exactly easy. And then, you have to study something which you do not have the least bit of interest in. I'd say, it only makes the matter worse. +1 If don't like a subject at all its a pretty bad idea to pursue it as in the end you will end up having nothing. Solitaire
I'll honestly tell you guys I wanted to join the airforce, engineering was my 2nd option. However, this "passion" won't earn me much or let me have a comfortable life and I took engineering cos I like working with gadgets and designing cool stuff, besides it pays well once you complete a post grad degree too, and you can settle quickly in life. At the same time I get time to pursue my passion for english and playing the piano. And never think of suicide if you fail at first try. Give it your all , but if you still fail, learn to take it like a man. Marks are important, but the path that your parents took to bring you up is too arduous to waste on an act of the moment. You took engineering because you have the interest for it. Would you want to take Mass Comm. IF it paid higher and you had to study History, Journalism etc? Wouldn't you like to study something for which you have the interest for rather than study something you hate?

I just thought that you can be an awesome video game journo. I dunno how well paid that job is, specially in india but you can be someone like Nash (he is a journo right ??) here. Death Stryke
Man this thread is making me depressed now. I too succumbed to pressure and now regret all my career education decisions. Wish I had given more thought or had more clarity about stuff when it was my time to decide!.

I'm a bit of a one-off kind of guy, I'd probably do that if it came to it. But speaking for most, yeah I probably wouldn't. But I would strive to do my best at whatever I chose to study - be it arts or commerce. And if I got pushed into a course I don't really like, I'd give it my best shot. I'm the exact opposite. If I do not find interest in something that I have to do, I just do not study it no matter how important it might me. Thats just me, I guess. I don't know what is the scope for elec jobs in India. The ones like Marvell Nvidia and Texas asked for exceptionally high marks and offered low packages too. Oh but telecom is good. Nokia siemens aricent r grt if u r elec n telecom. M kinda happy with what I am doing rightnow but I regret not studying the related subject while in undergrad.
