montylee
So, I was playing UC3 MP and when the match ended, the PS3 froze on the score card screen. Then i rebooted my PS3 and it wasn't showing the disc. Inserted Top Spin 4 game disc and even that didn't show up. Then i switched off the PS3, waited 5 mins and then it worked. After that, i played 1 match and again it got stuck after the match Also, i ejected UC3 disc after that and saw some smudges on the disc. Inserted Top Spin 4 disc and it didn't show up. Ejected it and saw similar smudges. I was able to clean the smudges using a cloth so they weren't exactly scratches. Is the blue ray drive going kaput (after just 1 year of buying the PS3)? Is is time for an alarm? What are my options?

spatali
I have a similar issue. In my PS3 newer game discs shows up only if the system is used for sometime(heated), whereas older games loads instantly without the need for heating. Its an odd issue. I'm guessing it has to something to do with the loading mechanism(mechanical issue) of the BD drive.
devil_angel
I'm sorry to bomb this thread, but I couldn't help noticing that the PS3 slim has a very, very high failure rate, something to rival the PHAT actually. Every now and then I see a thread like this. Did Sony actually fail with all it's measures to improve reliability with the console (I mean with the slim)? montylee
Hmm, but won't they ask for bill, warranty documents etc? Has anybody tried cleaning the blu ray lens himself? Maybe that's the 1st thing i should do. @devil_angel, ya i agree that even slim has a fairly high failure rate specially with the blu ray lens. RedLotus
bro it depends upon the service center people........i think when you don't have a bill or warranty card, they check SKU's serial. Just go and tell them its out of warranty and you are ready to pay 30% u might get lucky and get a replacement.
Bird Bird Bird
You might get lucky...there have been cases of Sony Service centers giving replacements to even OOR consoles Since u in delhi visit Lajpat nagar Service Center I remember sm1 mentioning getting a replacement for OOR ps3 from there 1-2 months ago And ppl do offer repair in Palika but there is no guaranty & it's more like a temporary fix Nopes. If you can get hold of a guy who knows his stuff around the PS3, an original-like lens would cost you 3-3.5k. They normally don't give warranty but it worked well in my older fat model for a year and a half (before it went into the stupid firmware update loop). :|
montylee
update: Played Top Spin 4 for 2 hours day before yesterday and had no issues. I think it's the UC3 disc which caused the issue. UC3 disc has visible circular patterns which i don't see on other discs. Read somewhere that few people faced similar issues. Yesterday, i cleaned up UC3 disc using the cleaning solution of my specs and then played UC3 multiplayer online without any issues. Let's see how it goes.
