Rey
Ok, I guess its pretty self explanatory with the topic title. I have a Modem(UT300R2U), to the modem a WiFi router is connected (Netgear WGR614v9), I connect my PS3 wirelessly to the router. The problem is I have NAT type 3, which I believe is a reason why I get massive lags and disconnections. And yes I have tried virtually every possible way to rectify this thing . I have assigned a static IP to PS3 in router settings, now whenever PS3 connects it always gets the same IP, I have put the PS3's IP in DMZ, have forwarded all the necessary ports but this thing just wont got to Type 2. I have DMZ'ed my router in the modem and DMZ'ed PS3 in the router, still wont work. Any firewall etc. is turned off. uPNP is on, and everything is setup correctly. IF anyone else has a similar setup or have previous experience with similar setup, please help me. Thanks.
devil_angel
Did you try with UPNP off or N/A'd?
Rey
Did you try with UPNP off or N/A'd? Yes I have tried with every possible combination. uPNP on/off+Ports forwarded+DMZ, it still remains Type 3.
devil_angel
Oh :| I remember tif having a very similar issue. I think he never sorted it out. Did you try any of these with a wired connection? Meaning, a direct modem connection instead of going through WIFI router?
Nikushimi
I had the same issue as well. I was using a Belkin router. Tried everything and still couldn't rectify it. Then switched to wired connection and everything is working as they should.

Yes, If I eliminate the router and connect modem directly to PS3(wired), things are fine. I had the same issue as well. I was using a Belkin router. Tried everything and still couldn't rectify it. Then switched to wired connection and everything is working as they should. Whoa, I guess there is no other way then..
Rey
I have spent hours reading topics with similar issues, and this is call Double NAT'ing. And what I am doing is exactly what needs to be done, you put your router's IP in DMZ in modem, and put PS3's IP in DMZ in router. Done. http://wiki.vuze.com/w/NAT_problem#Port_forwarding_with_two_routers http://portforward.com/help/doublerouterportforwarding.htm

Rey
lol no, what I meant is what I am doing is exactly what should be done, but still it gives me NAT type 3. Not solved.. Must Keep Trying!

Zuko
Do you have separate modem and router or Modem+router combo? Heh Bro i had a similar problem months back..i. i believe UT starcom is a BSNL modem..... i know i might sound odd but i bought a belkin modem router , connect wirelessly and the problem was resolved immediately.... this solution was provided to me by the bsnl fellow.... he told me that since the modem is UT starcomm n all it is not able to communicate effectively with the router.......in ur case you can try a friends wireless modem router and check the ps3. hope this helps.......keep us posted....... Hi, yes, the modem is a BSNL one... I guess it would be better to buy a modem+router combo as you said rather than modem and router separate... My friend has a modem+router combo, and his NAT is type 2, no problems.
Jigsaw
Do you have separate modem and router or Modem+router combo? No I have them separate. Just for you I double checked. The modem doesn't have anything in its DMZ. The wifi router has the static ip of the ps3. If this helps, I've set the wifi router for dhcp. Used to have the WGR614v6 ages ago and I know it's a pain to set that up. So now in my case only my ps3 has a static ip. Rest all devices including the desktop which is hard wired from the wifi router is on dynamic ip.

Jigsaw
^^ np bro hope you find success. That WGR614 is one hell of a painful sob. If I may suggest upgrade to a better wifi router like Linksys E1000
dante77
First of all, its not your NAT type which is causing lag and disconnection (Not 100% sure though). I had the same NAT TYPE 3 problem which IIRC restricts video chatting only. Thankfully, that problem solved automatically. I woke up one day, turned on my PS3 and it was NAT TYPE 2. Just like that. And I also had the static IP too. EDIT: and I had/still have the BSNL modem too (huawei)
Nikushimi
NAT3 causes connectivity problems, not sure about lag though. When I had NAT3 I couldn't connect to half the people in Fifa and SF4, also the maps in RDR multiplayer was deserted.
dante77
When I had NAT 3. I could easily connect with anyone in Killzone 2 and that SF PSN game. Disconnections were there but that remained after NAT TYPE 2 and it was the game (KZ2) and not my connection. Although, you may be right as it was over 2 years before
