Suggest a good Bluray Player.

Hi guys,

Before you guys JUMP and say "Get a PS3", here me out.

It's NOT for a gamer. Person who will be using it is my uncle, and he does not care about gaming, and he just needs a good bluray player so he can enjoy some good 3D movies on his new 55" Sony LED :P

So guys, please recommend any good "future-proof" bluray player, with future proof being it would be great if we can update it's firmware (if at all necessary) for newer features. Not that that's a requirement. The cheaper and VFM the player is the better :)

Thanx a lot guys. Looking forward to some really good and interesting comments ;)

^^ even with all those requirements, still its a PS3 :P You get firmware updates, its got a BD remote, plays 7.1 sound, supports 3D....and whatever comes in the future will be again supported thru firmware upgrades. And best part is, price starts under 20k.

But if you really don't want PS3, there are some good BD player options from Samsung. Check their website: http://www.samsung.com/us/video/blu-ray-dvd

Well, I had told him this before, but he's not that interested in PS3. Besides, no matter what I tell him, he won't listen to praises about the PS3 from "a guy obsessed with video games" and that would be me :P

I'll speak with him again about the PS3, but he told me about a specific model, Sony BDP-S480. He said he's getitng it for around 10 or 11k.

Are there any other models that you would recommend ? Let it be Samsung or Sony :)

Thanx a lot in advance dude :)

blu ray 3D players are still very expensive and will directly come in the range of a PS3, i think Sony has one priced at around 14k and something similar with Philips. I would suggest a PS3 slim in this case, with discounts you can get it for around 15k.

Also does your uncle own a 3D tv already or is he just buying it for being future proof.

He bought a Sony KDL-55EX720 a week ago, hence the excitement for 3D :P

No wonder :P

Well i think PS3 looks like a best bet here, ticks all your preferences, and even if it means he has to spend 2k-3k more, its worth it.

Hey Kazekage Gaara,

hope i would be able to help you out.......

Just need some more info before i make wild suggestions on blu ray player suggestion:

1. Whats your budget?

2. Do you uncle already have a HT i mean old that does not support 3D (A/V reciever). this question is very important since if his A/V reciever doesnot support 3D they you would need to pick a model with dual hdmi out put. Also this question doesnot come into picture if he doesnot have a HT presently.

Just some quick suggestion........

1. Avoid Samsung have heard many bad stories.

2. LG is VFM.......

3. Panasonic new models are very good but have high price and bad UI.

4. As your LED is of Sony will recomment u Sony since it will help you to manage both using one remote and also PQ rendering is bvery good too.

Hope the above points wil help you in deciding a little also if you could help me with your budget, then i can help you with specific models too.....

I really think PS3 is the only genuine option, if you want to invest in a Blu ray player,

First off the ps3 has a far better resale value and market, very less market for second hand Blu Ray players

Secondly regular firmware updates free of cost from SONY

Thirdly available with a HDD, which most Blu Ray players Lack

Fourthly 1 year warranty, honoured by Sony, stand alone Blu Ray players do not get the same treatement.

I can go on, but i think the above positives already outweigh any other Blur Ray in the same budget bracket as the PS3 ...

First of all, thank you so much for all your help guys, especially Amit and Exhiotic. Really appreciate the effort :D

Secondly, I'll check out those models, and last time I spoke with him, he wasn't too keen about getting the PS3. Don't really know why :P

Thirdly, he's getting a Sony BDV-E380 3D Blu-ray Disc™/ DVD 5.1ch Home Cinema for 19k here, which according to specs plays 3D blurays, and he gets a home theater system at the price of a PS3, so I don't think he's gonna take the PS3 as an advice compared to that :P

Again, thanx a lot guys for all the help. Will let you know what happens :)
