So the PC expansion doesn't contain the base game?

It is being marketed as DLC Expansion on STEAM so no the base game is not bundled.

Started playing last week. Love this game! I am reloading save files whenever my soldier dies :P Will try Ironman playthrough next time. Few questions -

1) So the game auto-assigns classes to soldiers. Is there way to change that? I mean can we manually assign classes? Right now I have just two snipers in my team and lots of useless Heavy gunners. I want more soldiers of Support and Sniper class.

2) Is there a way to get a country back to the XCOM project once they leave?

^^ Anyone?

1) It's random. You cannot manually select.

2) Once you lose a country, it's gone for good. And once eight countries leave, your game is over.

EDIT: You can try for yourself by saving and reloading a game, performing the same actions, and get different classes attributed.

^^ On consoles you play XCOM Enemy Within without Enemy Unknown, so that is only the former being downloaded.

Hmmm....That means original campaign won't be available.....all together new story arc? or I will start from where EU ended...with a base and everything?

If you are not downloading the original XCOM, how do you get to play it?

Completely different set-up for you chaps, I doubt it can be tied into the original campaign unless you own that as well.

[CVG]Golden Joysticks: Vote and receive XCOM free, courtesy of Green Man Gaming

Digital distributor Green Man Gaming has once again partnered with the Golden Joysticks Awards to offer everyone who votes a free game - and this year it's Firaxis' seminal sci-fi strategy game XCOM: Enemy Unknown!

This year's offer includes all existing voters, as well as those who head over to GoldenJoystick.com and cast their votes between now and the day we slam the door shut. But please note: you won't be able to claim your game until October 23. So don't try.

Before you head off and cast your votes, here are the super important bullet points:

  • All voters (including existing voters) will be able to claim their free copy once voting has ended.
  • Voters will be directed to the free game giveaway site and from the 23rd of October using the email address you voted with, you will need to sign-up to Playfire (and link to Steam) in order to receive a verification email and game code.
  • The offer is "while stock lasts" and you'll have to be over 18 to claim.
  • Regular CVG readers will remember that last year this promotion nuked our servers from orbit. We've significantly increased our infrastructure since then, but please bear with us if you experience any problems.

Okay played the first intro mission of this game yesterday.

2 questions.

1) is the learning curve to hard?...it did not seem to be as simple as valkyria chronciles type gameplay. There is lot of tactics and all to be used not saying VC did not had tactics but this seems to be even more complicated.

2) i see i have 3-4 xcom games on my steam list...they are about 70mb or something in size...what are they? separate games or part of this game only?

1. It's not hard once you understand the concept of turn based and understand game mechanics. It is challenging, yes.

2. Those are old XCOM games. Interceptor, Enforcer, Apocalypse, Terror From the Deep, UFO Defense.
